Neil Peart To Record Special Rendition Of Tsn Hockey Theme

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=299101

I am interested to see how it turns out. You can read the rest of the story on the link above.

TSN and Anthem Entertainment Group have confirmed that Neil Peart, renowned drummer of legendary rock band Rush, will record a special rendition of The Hockey Theme, the iconic theme song originally written by Delores Claman in 1968.

Damn at first I thought he was redoing the new CBC song. THAT would make it 100x better I bet.

He's redoing the new TSN anthem well then I'm sure it will still be better. Neil Peart is one of the best drummers of all-time.

Buddy Rich and/or Tony Williams is still alive?!

But seriously as a prog head myself, I would be pretty confident that Neil is capable of coming up with something cool.

i didnt really mind the simple plan version. I've played something similar in the past jamming with some friends (as well as a reggae version with a sax).

the thing that annoyed me with the BNL one was the stupid, annoying lyrics.

I've always thought that the Hockey Theme needed lyrics describing a starship captain's journey through a black hole, followed by his spirit's re-emergence and subsequent apotheosis in ancient Greece (followed by a ten minute drum solo).

What Peart should actually do is record a cycle that spans an entire season and tells the heroic story of the downtrodden Leafians and their epic journey to Boston to retrieve the One True Draft Pick.

I feel like a 14 year old girl.

Best drummer ever. **** I can't wait to tell my brother about this, he is a big Rush fan as well.

I hear ya, simple plan just isn't my thing, pop music in general I despise, I play guitar in a metal band, I play a raw nofx style just pure shredding, ya that BNL version was brutal I agree with you there

Good call. He is one the great rock drummers, but as a lyricist, he's had his share of missteps. Of course, that was the 1970s, when it was allright to be a starship captain, a tree in need of union representation and, well, you know, the Hemispheres storyline.

Still, looking forward to this.

Blasphemy!!! The only problem with Hemispheres is that Circumstances isn't a more popular song.

Hahahaha!! Awesome buddy, awesome!

Don't forget, Neil is very jazz-influenced nowadays. Wouldn't be surprised to see a more jazz oriented theme, rather than rock. I hope it turns out well.

And I hate to say it, but the 'new' CBC theme song is really growing on me. Don't get me wrong, the 'HNIC theme' will always be the only true original, and I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, that it is with TSN.

I grew up a huge Rush-head, mostly because I was a young drummer and Neil was a big influence. I'm more in the Tony Williams camp these days, but I do still catch Rush whenever they play Detroit.

I'm looking forward to hearing this.
