The Goalie debate thread Part II (Price fan? Halak fan? Who's our #1? Discuss here)

Seeing as the other one is about to get locked (due to size).

Remember;

Price sucks. Price rules.
Halak sucks. Halak rules.

Those are the only four sentences you can say in here.

Heart Attack Halak. In the case the unexplainable, you go by results. Halak is getting them.

Simple solution is to move Andrei to the blue line until he starts to play way better and sit MAB for a few games.

Price does many things that Halak doesnt, like all the bomb passes. Price will be a lot better than Halak at some point in his career. It's all about confidence and focus for Price, cause he has the skills.

I love Halak, but he wont be the habs #1. IMO, it's another case of Garon and Danis. He'll be a decent #1 for another team someday.

Count me in the Price bandwagon, but until one of them gets dealt, I'll cheer for both.

Let's do the role reversal for a bit I just don't see how that would change the game tonight, or the wins either. Both goalies give you around the same game so really it is the defense breaking down.

Seems to me that Carey's efforts are minimal to none. Despite his size and lankiness, it appears that he does not have any desperation while he plays. A great deal of effort is not present.

I did a little research on the winning ratios dating back to last year and the results were rather baffling. Since coming back from injury on Jan. 20, Price's record is 9-22-5 while Halak is 12-9 in the same time period.

won't get into a debate about this game. This thread is about who is number 1.
It's Halak until further notice.

The number one goalie is the goalie in the net the odd nights the team shows up defensively.

end thread.

People have to understand that criticism ISN'T saying the guy sucks.

To say Carey could've done better, doesn't mean he sucked or the loss is 100% on him.

People will have greater expectations for Price, because he's a 5th overall pick. To me, none of our goalie so far has been playing up to their respective potential. They both can do better.

No he tries and moves pretty well in his net but when you are big and start throwing yourself side to side it is very difficult to get back into position. Smaller goalies do that flopping around and it looks amazing but it is the only way they can get across quick enough, but if Price does that and a rebound gets out he's done for.

Price is very good positionally, he needs more support from his dmen

Awesome post. Why can't fans just support the team and not bash on a particular player all the time?

Halak does things that Price doesn't - like stop pucks with his glove hand.

It's a good thread to discuss game by game strategy related to goaltending. We have a very volatile and fluid situation and I think it's good and fun to discuss because the variables change so quickly. Tonight was a litmus test. Several questions where answered.

Is Price the problem for his record?

No. He's playing well. Hard not to lose confidence when losing so much, but he didn't seem to collapse tonight even with all the goals.

Can the team score goals for him?

Yes. They showed a lot of offensive intensity tonight. The Atlanta goalie was solid. I think the myth of the team not scoring goals for him was officially dispelled.

Is the defensive coverage different for either goalie?

Tonight was particularly bad. A lot of shots compared to recent efforts, and many, many close range, open shots.

I'm not sold that either goalie is the problem or solution. Neither goalie has been lights out enough to solidly take over the number 1. My preference for the moment is Halak, but that could change, or worse, become moot if the team is going to keep playing like this. In a month from now, the goaltending argument could very well be an afterthought.

During this same time period...the team has an incredible 12, 596 giveaways
