It's all fun and games until we go on a 10 game losing streak....then it becomes in fact hysterical

We better stomp all over the Islanders. If we get another lackluster effort, I'm going to punch a stranger. Preferably one under 5 foot.

Here are some quotes to ponder:

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/..._Colorado.html

Quote:
The third period was a different story.

"It was gut-check time," Pronger said. "We needed to answer the bell."

Claude Giroux's rock-'em, sock-'em beating of Marek Svatos with 3:31 remaining in the second period roused the Flyers into outshooting the Avalanche, 19-4, in the final frame. The Flyers had been outshot, 27-15, through the first two periods.

"I didn't like the way I played," Giroux said. "Hopefully we would start playing better. Sometimes it's fun to get messy a bit."

A fiery speech by Stevens in the second intermission helped spur the Flyers, but Briere was the catalyst in the comeback bid. He picked up his third and fourth points with under 10 minutes to go. He scored from the slot with 8:43 remaining and Carter netted his second of the night just 4 minutes later.

The Flyers were buzzing so much that it looked as if they would salvage at least one point from the game.

"We tried like crazy at the end," Stevens said. "If we played the whole game like we played at the end, we wouldn't be in that situation."

Skating with an extra man and a vacated net, they might have evened the game at 5-5 if not for a Scott Hartnell goalie-interference penalty with a little more than 2 minutes to go. Still, they had a shot to tie it with a flurry of empty-net opportunities and close calls in a game they had no business sniffing.

"We started pressuring and we stopped laying back," Richards said. "I think Johnny's [Stevens] message was loud and clear. We knew had to play with more desperation and urgency. It was too little, too late."

It's only funny until someone (an entire team) gets hurt, and then it's just hilarious.

Just a matter of time before someone loses an eye.

Is there any chance the next injury goes to John Stevens? Maybe pull a Jose Theodore and hurt himself on slippery stairs?

The Flyers and Isles lead the league in man-games lost since the lockout by a pretty fair margin. And I think that the Flyers have surpassed the Islanders this season.

Hah, i hate the injuries as much as everyone else, but it IS starting to sound like a pity party in here. let's grit our teeth and bear it, and hopefully when people start coming back, we'll have our effort issues fixed. when you're missing key players, the team should be trying HARDER.

We had some pretty brutal defenses post-lockout. If he was healthy, he would have played and been an improvement over what we had. Of course, that would have been hell with the salary cap.

But we've had tons of players on LTIR. Not just Slothje.

So, apparently Briere threw a cheap, dirty hit worthy of suspension in the melodramatic circles of the boards' view.

I didn't see the hit, heard about it though. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they get him for it.

I have yet to see it too. So far, I've been shown a still-shot, which to some people is irrefutable evidence of a dirty play.

Didn't he hurt Hannan on that play?

Yes, a crosscheck to the neck area will generally do that.

GKJ, considering the number of times you've jumped to the conclusion than an uber-dirty hit was made in the absence of any proof (if it's a player you dislike)... If it were Downie who was reported to have pulled something like this, you'd be ready to burn him at the stake.

I'm shocked that Briere didn't get called for it, and I won't be surprised if there's a fine or suspension.

Briere and hit are two words that don't belong in the same sentence unless it's "Briere got hit by <insert any player older than 14 years old here>."

I typically don't comment on any hit until I see the video first, usually multiple times, and I certainly don't jump on anyone for it on just one live look. I would be ready to burn Downie at the stake, because I didn't like him for the specific reasons that the Flyers ended up getting rid of him, and I was on the lengthy-suspension side of that, which is what he got based on reputation, so is it because I didn't like him, or was it because my assessment of that play was in tune with the league regardless of my view of the player?
