Chicago talking deal: Sopel + Prospect or Pick

Per Darren Dreger's Twitter:

" Hawks have presented the Leafs and other teams with different trade options. Sopel and a prospect, or Sopel and draft pick. Stay tuned. "

Thoughts?

I wonder who the prospects are? If its guys like Beach or Skille, I'd image a lot of teams would be interested.

Considering Skille is probably gone from here at the end of the year I could see him moving.

But I'd think the Hawks would have to get at least something nominal back.

i think it would be a 3rd round pick

or a lower end prospect like Brophey..

i sure a hell doubt he would give up on Skille/Beach or another top prospect for a low-end salary dump

i think he should put sopel on waivers first and see if anyone would want to pick up 100% of the salary, some team out there might

Regarless of what the Hawks get back in a deal like this, the most important part of that trade is the ability to sign Toews, Kane etc to long term deals. It's not so much what Chicago can get in the trade; it's what it does for them long term. Is the ability to sign those young players to long term deals worth a high pick; I would think so.

Leafs would need to be interested here. Burke's going to need picks to rebuild and this would allow him to move one of his dmen for a pick or two as well.

This sounds much more realistic than giving up Barker for Ottawa's trash.

I think Skille is the more likely candidate. He needs to get to another team now, if he is ever going to break out and join the NHL for a while. He sure isn't on Chicago.

I'm sure the Hawks are looking for a 2nd line center with that package. Maybe they're trying to get Stajan.

If Bowman gives away Beach or Skille to dump Sopel he is just as bad a GM as Tallon and would deserve to be fired

Skille will be resigned at a deal lower then his current ELC

I dont see him moving just to dump Sopel

My best guess it is Sopel + 2nd or Bickell + Sopel

Bickell is playing with Hawks right now, Is a big young PF prospect who got his 1st goal last night.

Looks like showcasing to me

Ottawa's Trash? Let me remind you of this trade to get cap space...

SJ:

Christian Ehrhoff
Brad Lukowich

VAN:

Daniel Rahimi
Patrick White

Picard can be a quick and cheap fix to take Barkers spot on the 3rd pairing and Shannon would probably be waived.

His ELC contract expires and he will be cheaper next year.

We are gonna need someone like Skille to replace the depth players we lose because of CAP this offseason

Yes but they did that to acquire Heatley!

Vastly different circumstances

And let me remind you of this

Havlat + Garbage for Garbage

Just cause some GM"s are stupid dont mean all GM's are stupid

Really makes me wish Boston had the cap space because I'd love getting Jack Skille in a Bruins uniform.

Chicago has to deal something of value here to get rid of Sopel and the 5 million + that is owed on his contract. Everyone knows the financial position they are in right now.

They don't need to re-sign those guys until July 1st, and they would be fine as is, so expecting a big addition to Sopel is unrealistic. Potentially a 2nd but probably a 3rd. I'm sure there are teams out there who would be OK with sopel as their 4th-5th defenceman. How long is Kronvall out for?

Sopel + pick for Exelby's expiring contract makes the most sense.

I'd be surprised if Chicago wasn't trying to move Akim Aliu as well in a deal. Big risk/reward project that they might not want any part of. He has seemed to be stuck on pause as far as development goes. I thought after his first year in London that he was going to be one of the better power forwards in the league on day, but he seems to have had trouble taking another step forward.

Hawks fans might come on here and tell me I'm wrong, as I haven't seen anything from him in Rockford, however.

Isn't Sopel a washed up 3rd pairing defensive D?

Why is Toronto getting so excited about picking up a guy who adds to an already existing pile of washed up immobile defensive-d?
