the difference is that we are talking about player value, I am talking about actual $$$$ I dont see the teachers liking the idea of spending 3 million dollars of their pension on a 14% chance of a dime a dozen player, unless we get the english/drama teachers to sign off on it

What about Jamie Benn and 4th for Crawford and Versteeg?

The biggest complaint is that he turns the puck over too often. This is strange when you consider XLB has averaged 0.4GvA/game, while White (our most reliable d-man) has averaged about 0.95GvA/game, Komi 1.19, Kaberle 0.86, Beauchemin 0.66, Schenn 0.57, Finger 0.58, and Gunnarsson 0.5.

He hits, clears the front of the net, blocks shots, and provides good energy for a 3rd pairing guy that can play 10-15min/game.

Really? 1st and Brunnstrom for Versteeg? I would never want Dallas to do that trade, let alone add in Sopel.

I'm fine with trading Brunnstrom but unless the Stars were packaging him with say, Woywitka for Cam Barker, then no dice. Chicago needs to move a few bodies, it's silly to give up a 1st in that situation.

0% chance. I wouldn't do Benn straight up for Versteeg (I believe Benn has a higher ceiling) and the Stars have an abundance of goalies.

Just a quick thought?

To Leafs:
Brent Sopel
2010 1st Rounder
Jack Skille/Patrick Sharp

To Blackhawks
Matt Stajan/ Grabovski
Jiri Tlusty
2009 4th Round Pick

Flame Away...

No chance that's happening. Both players were late round gems, but just by watching Benn play this season as a 20 year old, I do believe that Benn has the higher ceiling. Also, Dallas already has goalie prospects that have a really slim chance at becoming starters, no need to add another.

Have you looked at next years draft? Its not really that deep. A 1st next year around 15-30 would fetch you a player this past year that was in the 2nd round. Also Brunnstrom is the odd man out in Dallas and would probably benefit from a change of scenery. With the firepower Chicago has it would suit him well.

CHI - TOR
Brent Sopel < Matt Stajan (slight dif)
Jack Skille < Jiri Tlusty (slight dif)
2010 1st Rounder > 2009 4th Round Pick (huge dif)
Patrick Sharp > Grabovski (huge dif)

I doubt CHI wants to give up a first rounder or Sharp in any deal that's simply intended to remove Sopel. My guess is that the Sopel-Stajan exchange simply requires CHI sending TOR's 2011 second rounder back to the Leafs in order to balance things out. Alternatively, TOR sends Exelby instead of Stajan and gets Sopel and their 2011 third rounder that CHI also owns.

To Chicago
Garnet Exelby

To Leafs
Brent Sopel
2nd round pick

Exelby fits the criteria financially and hes a UFA after this season which makes the TKK trade extensions possible now.

I don't see how anything other then that could work financially from the Hawks perspective. Sopel has been pretty good and I don't know who the Hawks would replace his roster spot with... Obviously they would want someone capable with experience given the position the Hawks are in.

The Marlies player being scouted could be Frogren. Big, physical, cheap defenseman to take Sopel's place

I don't think a Sopel - Stajan move opens up much space for Chicago

Add Frogren, and I'm totally Good with that deal. Does he have 1 yr left on his contract?

This is his final year. He's making 900K and playing for the Marlies right now.

Leafs definitely go for that trade.

Leafs and general other brainless armchair GM's out there. The Hawks are not giving up one of their best players in Sharp LMAO. ITll be something like Sopel and only Sopel. I can't believe Leafs fans actually think their going to get Sharp for nothing. Grow Brains. PLEASE

I could see it being Barker.... but I agree that Sharp isn't going anywhere this year.

i think this is most likely what the deal will look like along with a player from the marlies going to Chicago. I would like to see the leafs get their own 3rd back for next years draft.

To be honest taking sopels is probably worth a late 2nd/high 3rd and exelby could probably fetch the same so something like this would work.

Sopel
Chi 2nd 2011 or 2012
Tor 3rd 2011

for

exelby
Frogren/Oreskevic/Rosehill/whichever player CHI is looking at

Why do you have to be an ass to all Leaf fans? There's plenty of us around here who understand the situation, and have made realistic offers.

This is a good proposal...but I would like Bickell instead of the second pic.
Exelby - Sopel, Bickell

For fun here is my expanded version:
To CHI
Stajan, Exelby, Tlusty
To TOR
Madden, Sopel, Bryan Bickell, Dylan Olsen, 2nd
Breakdown
Stajan - Madden,2nd
Exelby - Sopel, Bickell
Tlusty - Olsen
CHI saves roughly 2mil this year, and a tonne next year.

BTW-Tlusty has been removed from the leafs depth chart on CBSsports.com and not listed on Hockeysfuture.com?????

Burke won't wait much longer. On the weekend he thought he was close to making two trades, including this odd deal with Chicago for Brent Sopel (as if that would make a difference). By Monday, both deals were all but dead.

Why?

In order to dump Sopel, Chicago has to add an enticing asset or two. Than if you want to get a quality player in Stajan you'd have to deal some that would equal him.
