Yea, I don't get it. Where were the other 28 GMs when that was going down? It's mind boggling...just like the Coburn for Zhitnik deal.

It boggles the mind. Terrible return for a solid d-man. We could've easily added Ehrhoff. Easily, no doubt about it.. The Philly-Atlanta ****** was brutal as well. All I can say about the Coburn for s***nik deal is that Atlanta probably wanted a veteran presence for the playoff run..I see no other reason other than Waddell being an idiot as to why it went down like that.

It's really hard to comprehend. The Sharks could really use Erhoff right now and yet they traded him to a contender in the same conference? Utter madness.

Johnny Oduya + Middling Prospect + 1st 2010

for

Sheldon Souray + 3rd 2010

Souray - Martin
Salvador - Greene
White - Mottau
Fraser

I think something like that is our best bet. A younger defender with proven ability could prove way too costly. You could probably do a similar deal for Niedermayer, only I don't think he gets dealt. The Ducks will likely pull it together.

Pray Souray stays healthy.

PP1:

Parise - Zajac - Clarkson

Greene - Souray

PP2:

Rolston - Elias - Bergfors

Martin - Langenbrunner

I'd be down with that trade for Souray too. And Edmonton is throwing in the towel and planning for next year already, so I think they'd have interest in it too.

I like Souray, but if we're giving up Oduya, I'm not including our first. I'm sure the Oilers would mind getting his contract off their books. Oduya and a 2nd is fair in my opinion.

Souray is great on special teams, brings toughness, veteran leadership and would be a perfect partner for Martin, imo.

He's worth dealing our 1st for (we're going to be drafting very low). He's a difference maker, something we lack on the blue line. We would just have to sacrifice a goat to the hockey gods to make sure he is healthy.

If that worked, we would have done it by now.

The number of injuries we have is getting ridiculous. Sather must have a voodoo doll or something.

But yes, I do hope that Lou can swing a trade for Souray. Continue the reunion tour, and bring him home Lou!

The pricetag probably scared most teams off. Aside from the remaining two years of Ehrhoff at 3.1, the Sharks also dumped 1.5 mil of Brad Lukowich on Vancouver. At the point of the trade (August 29th), only a handful of teams could afford to take on that much salary.

Arguably would could have been one of those teams, but Lou might have preferred to keep that 3.1 mil open in 2010-11 for raises for Clarkson, Bergfors, and Martin.

Doubt thats ever gonna happen. Lou had a chance to sign him as an FA a couple of seasons ago and he didn't. Must think he's overpriced.

He may have changed his mind since then. I wouldn't rule it out.

Bobby Mac was speculating that Carolina may be looking to move some players because their wheels have officially fallen off after this weekend. I wouldn't mind Gleason if he came pretty cheap. He'll be a UFA at the end of the season.

It would be great to have Souray in New Jersey but I am not sure that it will be cap feasible long term. It would be 5.4 million per year (2.4 more than Oduya) in a year when we need to resign Martin, Clarkson and Bergfors (which will probably be about 5 million more towards the cap) in the summer. Gotta see closer to the deadline what the cap is going to be like next year.

If Oduya goes back in the deal, the cap won't be a problem.

Gleason appears to be signed through 2012. With Ward, Corvo, and Wallin all hitting UFA this offseason, Gleason would probably be one of the more unlikely guys to be moved.

Phaneuf

We'd be taking on a lot of salary, but if we get rid of/not re-sign Salvador, Pandolfo, Pelley, PL3, Pikka, Peters, and McAmmond in the offseason, we'd save about $8M.
