Montreal acquires Benoit Pouliot for Guillaume Latendresse

Just announced on Oilers lunch.

Quote:
Sources tell TSN the Montreal Canadiens have traded Guillaume Latendresse to the Minnesota Wild for Benoit Pouliot. More details to follow.
Seems like Pouliot lost A TON of value since coming in to the league.

Anyone else thinking we could have dumped our Pouliot for Latandresse?

Because it's a trade involving two NHL hockey players on an NHL-centric discussion forum. Given the number of trade proposals that get tossed around here it makes sense that we should discuss one that actually happened.

Geez, buddy.

Wow, he was the 3rd overall pick in the Sidney Crosby draft.

3rd or 4th?

Crosby, Ryan, J. Johnson, B. Pouliot, C. Price, G. Brule.

You're right, 4th, still, wow, how badly did Minnesota miss.

Which is why tanking a season carries a huge load of risk.

What do you mean? It's a guarantee, just look at the Kings and the Hawks, they tanked for what, like 2 years, and now they're amazing.

Edit: Phoenix too.

Kings and Hawks sucked for 7 or 8 years, not just 2 years.

I think Latendresse will be a better player.

Benoit Pouliot was way overated in his draft year that's for sure...

I think he will be the best player long term between the two but not near his draft selection.

and BTW the La Kings are far from being an amazing team!

The funny thing about that year if the NHL had used the pre-lockout standings, Minnesota would have drafted 11th overall, and got very lucky moving into a top 5 pick.

It was just too bad that Anze Kopitar was drafted 11th overall.

No because Benoit Pouliot has more size, and plays a bigger game.

Yeah, I seem to recall Minny went of the board with this pick, similar to us taking Jesse Niniimaki.

But let's be honest, we have to be right up there with all-time no. 4 draft busts in Jason Bonsignore At least Pouliot has been a serviceable pro.

Benoit Pouliot has been a serviceable pro? Marc Pouliot I would believe, but not Benoit.

At worst, you can mold him into a serviceable 3rd-4th line energy guy. If he some how turns it around, then maybe even into a regular 3rd line guy, chipping in 5-10 goals and physical play.

Benoit Pouliot? I'm not sure the guy has a niche.

I doubt that. Latendresse is an awful hockey player.

I am not up on this Pouliot's career but in comparison to Bonsig. has he not been a more productive pro relative to JB ?

Gui was a preseason wonder who was rushed big time!

his potential is at best a 3rd line winger. He is fat, slow, and for a big guy does not go to the net AT ALL.

some how i loved him with the media though

Oh he has for sure, but he hasn't been able to solidify a spot on the Wild at all. He can score in the minors, but can't bring that game to the NHL.
