Give him a coach like Quinn and see what he can do. Makes peanuts in terms of salary, could be a beauty 3rd/4th liner given the right scenery.

EDIT: Seems that I'm in the minority on this one...oh well, not like he's coming to Edmonton anyway

Whereas we had two months to cheer about in ten years and we get to suck to infinity and beyond.

lol, it does a bit actually, though he doesn't bring a physical game at the same level as JFJ, which was always going to keep the door open for him a bit.

Go look over top 5 draft picks the last 10 years. Tanking certainly carries a great deal of risk with it in the interests of franchise viability, but as far as bettering the team long run through player procurement there is essentially no question of it's success.

I disagree, there's not perfect formula, save for having Nik Lidstrom on the blueline for 15 years.

You can disagree all you want, but as far as player procurement goes I'd suggest you have a look at those picks before labeling it a crapshoot.

Just two little anecdotes to look at.

If the Oilers held the fifth pick for the last 5 years they'd boast: Schenn/Schenn/Gagner (assumedly)/Kessel/Price.

At 1:

Tavares/Stamkos/Kane/EJ/Crosby

Yup, those guys have game, good thing if you finish last you're guaranteed that pick to make things nice and easy.

would rather suck for 7 years and end up with kane and toews than be mediocre for 15 and still see no light at the end of the tunnel.

Maybe, if he wasn't injured. I'm hoping Pittsburgh may have some interest in Pouliot, as far fetched as that may be.

(Yeah, yeah; I know just because he and Sid played together in junior doesn't necessarily mean much--save it.)

Yes, far better to finish in the 20 range every year ad nauseum.

Care to be any more nebulous?

There's laundry list of players as evidence of the extremely high rate of quality and success in top 5 draft picks, which in turn would point to this as arguably the best possible path of player procurement.

In the face of that explain to me how finishing in the 20 range time and again leads to success in player procurement and building the best possible team for success as soon as possible.

I always thought that Latendresse was a franchise in Montreal... he's so popular over there... dont think theres that much to him as a player though.

I'd like to see Tambellini swing another Torres/Brule type of deal. One of our underperforming established NHL players for the other teams' once highly touted prospects bordering on bust.

Nilsson, Staios, Moreau are some of the names that I'd be willing to sacrifice to take on a redemption project a la G. Brule or B. Pouliot. Are there any prospects of that ilk?

It's because he is french.

I heard him interviewed on MOntreal radio last night. He basically trashed the Canadiens. He was not happy with how he was handed. It was kind of whiny actually.

Awesome so we would have a solid goalie, a goal scorer and what seems to be a promising d-man and then two guys that we have no idea where they are going to go. I'm not sure about you but I am not exactly creaming my pants over that thought.
