What a comedy of errors on that one.
That was pathetic on Anaheim's part, i couldn't believe it...... I'm starting to think that Pronger is the most important player in the league, just look at what happened to St.Louis, Edmonton and Anaheim after he left, amazing what a difference one player can make.

I know riiiiight?!

One play was really typical of what the Oilers were about the last couple seasons. Gagner, mid-third period rush, up 4 - 0, instead of making the smart, safe play and putting it deep, he makes a ridiculous drop pass to Penner that floats out there forever before Penner finally gets there for the shot.

It seems in this game Gagner really regressed toward making the dumb, risky plays, while most everybody else on the team buckled down and played the system.

But these are the bad habits that simply weren't addressed in the past, and they'll take time to work out of this team's game. Aside from those kinds of things, the Oilers competed hard, made smart plays, and matched the Yotes intensity after a tough first few minutes.

Those guys sucked, bottom line..... All they talked about all night was how great the Coyotes were playing and that the Oilers got a ton of lucky breaks etc. etc. The Coyotes didn't really do that much until the game was 4-0 and yeah the Horcoff making $7 mil a year comment was just dumb.

Yeah, they make mistakes like that in the broadcast pretty frequently.

Nice win by the team, a little sloppy at times, but still good. Will take this one with a bit of caution though, as we seem to own the 'Yotes, and Bryz every time they come in here. I love the move putting Gagner with Penner and Hemmer. He looked comfortable there, and I think we'll see some good things in the future. Going to both games late this week against the Kings and Sharks. I think we'll beat the Kings, but the Sharks could bring us down to earth again.

P.S. Any word on Ryan Stone, Chorney or MAP being available for either game?

Oilers let off the gas in the 3rd. I've never seen an opposing team attack so much in a period like the Coyotes were doing in the 3rd.

This game should have been 6-3, 6-4, 7-3, etc. Oilers had so many scoring chances.

The biggest disappointment for me was the 5 on 3. Quinn takes a time out for it and they are all just stationary and blew it.

You must not have seen the prior game the Oilers played against the Hawks.

If I were Kevin Smith I would tone down the weed talk though. Uncle Sam doesnt like that kind of thing. Just ask Tommy Chong. Maybe he has plans for a prison movie?

Quinn said he was happy with the first two periods. He said they got fat and happy in the third.

I love listening to his post game conferences.

The veterans certainly stepped up. Perhaps all that "venting" helped them.

Just kidding everyone.

He is trying to make things happen out of nothing which is mistake kids make. When Gagner plays a simple game he is alot more effective. Last night is a good example of him really trying to do too much. He did do a few things like late in the third he drove the net and got that penalty called.

He seems to go in these funks for 5 or 6 games and not really do much of anything. but I have to tell myself he is only a few months past 20.

Not sure that I would agree with your take on Gagner's play. He's working hard and generally playing well positionally, but I don't think he won a single battle for the puck all night. Teams are just attacking him to force a rushed play to get rid of the puck, or conversely are not rushed at all when they see Sam coming at them because they know they can out-battle him for the puck.

Don't get me wrong, I love the kid, and he's very talented. I just think that Penner and Hemsky might be better complimented by someone who can create a little more time and space for them. IMO Quinn may be having a tough time trying to figure out exactly where to fit Sam in right now.

Anyone know the Oilers stats on faceoffs last night? I was at the game and it seemed like they were winning a bunch of draws but don't actually know the stats. Thanks.

He takes nhl shots in practice, does he not? He's been with the team since yesterday. I'm sure a weeks worth of practice and the shots in the warm ups from yesterday, tomorrow, friday, and saturday will also help.

They are going to film in Detroit, I went to "a night with kevin smith" the night before last and he is VERY emotional about this film. He also recently fell in love with Gretzky... like all he talks about is Gretzky. Can't wait for that movie.

Here they are

Team total - 30/24 - 56%
Shawn Horcoff - 0/2 - 0%
Andrew Cogliano -1/1 - 50%
Ryan Potulny - 4/6 - 40%
Patrick O'Sullivan - 5/4 - 56%
Dustin Penner - 9/2 - 82%
Gilbert Brule - 5/6 - 45%
Sam Gagner 6/3 - 67%

Penner and Gagner were the leaders in winning faceoffs.
