How does this game work? What part of the year are we at?

Trade deadline 2010, start of 2009-10 season, offseason 2010?

Carolina will be on for most of the night, so if any contenders are looking to pick up the final pieces to a cup run let me know. Mostly everyone is available, most attractive pieces are Whitney, Corvo, Cullen, A.Ward, Cole, Brindamour and Larose.

ACQUIRES GRABOVSKI, KULEMIN

To :To :
Jason Arnott, 4th Round Pick 2010Mikhail Grabovski, Nikolai Kulemin
PREDS' REPORT:
The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Jason Arnott from the Nashville Predators in exchange for center Mikhail Grabovski and winger Nikolai Kulemin. This trade brings in youth in exchange for a veteran proven first line center to work with Phil Kessel. For Nashville, this gives Grabovski a spot on the first line with Steve Sullivan and JP Dumont, and for Nikolai Kulemin, a chance on the second line. This is a vital part of our re-build, to bring the team youth.

Martin Erat, Joel Ward, Dan Hamhuis, Cody Franson and Dan Ellis are on the block for a reasonable price.

Anaheim is entertaining offers for Bobby Ryan. Don't ask if you aren't offering a top pairing defenseman.

You're right. Toronto didn't necessarily sell high but we got the player we wanted and were able to recoup some picks in preparation for scouting some gems in a deep draft. Toronto no longer saw Jiri Tlusty as productive member of the roster given his sensitivity in a hockey mad environment and the ability to only play a perimeter game. We hope he finds success in Phoenix playing along-side fellow country-men Zbynek Michalek, Robert Lang, Martin Hanzal, Radim Vrbata & Petr Prucha.

From the Phx perspective we believe we got incredible value if you look at the deal and the players as they're playing today. But if a change of scenery helps Mueller find the 22-32-54 he put up as a 19-year-old rookie, Toronto might look like the big winner in a year or two. We simply could no longer wait for him to find his game.

Hagman has a great history with Tippett, is a great skater and two-way winger who fits our style and should step right in and contribute 20-25 goals a year. Tlusty also fits the style and has offensive upside. As we're looking like a bubble playoff team this year that is desperate for scoring help, we like our chances more of getting in with Hagman and Tlusty than if we kept waiting for Petey.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Rick Nash and Steve Mason are untouchable.
Derrik Brassard and Jakub Voracek are very close to untouchable, so will be hard very hard to get.

Trade block:
Mike Commodore
Jason Chimera
RJ Umberger

Everyone else is available for the right price.

Also Columbus resigns the following RFAs.

Anton Starlman - 2 years, 0.875
Jared Boll - 2 years, 0.900
Michael Blunden - 3 years, 0.755 *
Tom Sestito - 2 years, 0.75*
Alexander Picard - 2 years, 0.86*
Mathieu Roy - 2 years, 0.6*

* = 2 way.
