ATD 12 Regular Season Results (and, eventually, playoff results)

The regular season voting results have been tabulated for ATD 12. We had 28 of 36 GMs vote. Thanks to everyone for participating, and good luck to all in the playoffs.

The Jim Robson Division:
1. Inglewood Jacks
2. New Jersey Swamp Devils
3. Portland Rosebuds
4. Toronto Toros
5. St. Georges Garaga
6. Winnipeg Jets
7. Kenora Thistles
8. Montreal Maroons
*Note: Inglewood and New Jersey were tied for top spot in the Robson. Inglewood won the tie-breaker with more first place votes.

Foster Hewitt Division:
1. Tidewater Sharks
2. Trail Smoke Eaters
3. Betelgeuse Hitchhikers
4. Glace Bay Miners
5. Trinec Steelers
6. Chicago Blackhawks
7. Toronto Maple Leafs
8. Victoria Cougars
Note: Tidewater had the most votes of any team in the draft, and will have home ice advantage regardless of the opponent. Congrats, Hed.

Bob Cole Division:
1. Medicine Hat Tigers
2. Kimberley Dynamiters
3. Regina Pats
4. Cairo Desert Dogs
5. Syracuse Bulldogs
6. New York Golden Blades
7. Hartford Whalers
8. Ottawa 67s

Rene Lecavalier Division:
1. Detroit Falcons
2. Nanaimo Clippers
3. Grand Rapids Owls
4. Silver Seven Sons of Canada
5. Nova Scotia Voyageurs
6. Renfrew Millionaires
7. Hamilton Bettmans
8. Halifax Mooseheads

Playoff match-ups are as follows:

Jim Robson Division:
Inglewood Jacks (1) vs. Montreal Maroons (8)
New Jersey Swamp Devils (2) vs. Kenora Thistles (7)
Portland Rosebuds (3) vs. Winnipeg Jets (6)
Toronto Toros (4) vs. St. Georges Garaga (5)

Foster Hewitt Division:
Tidewater Sharks (1) vs. Victoria Cougars (8)
Trail Smoke Eaters (2) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (7)
Betelgeuse Hitchhikers (3) vs. Chicago Blackhawks (6)
Glace Bay Miners (4) vs. Trinec Steelers (5)

Bob Cole Division:
Medicine Hat Tigers (1) vs. Ottawa 67s (8)
Kimberley Dynamiters (2) vs. Hartford Whalers (7)
Regina Pats (3) vs. New York Golden Blades (6)
Cairo Desert Dogs (4) vs. Syracuse Bulldogs (5)

Rene Lecavalier Division:
Detroit Falcons (1) vs. Halifax Mooseheads(8)
Nanaimo Clippers (2) vs. Hamilton Bettmans (7)
Grand Rapids Owls (3) vs. Renfrew Millionaires (6)
Silver Seven Sons of Canada (4) vs. Nova Scotia Voyageurs (5)

I have to head out soon. If someone (or a few people) could please take of the match-up threads, I'd appreciate it.

I'd suggest that we have the Round 1 vote deadline be Saturday at midnight EST or Sunday at noon EST. (That way I can have results taken care of by Grey Cup on Sunday. Go Riders!)

Thanks for doing this, GBC. I concur with those who said the Lecavalier was a monster this time around. Congrats to Eagle for winning his division in the regular season for the 6th straight season. Although the Falcons haven't broken through to win the cup yet, no team has been more consistently excellent than yours. Maybe this will be the one? Now you get a nightmare 1st round matchup against a very good Halifax team.

Hardest voting ever! Congrats to all the division winners especially Hedberg! 3rd consecutive time my team got the 3rd place, talking about cosistency.

Taking the commish's hat off and playing GM for a moment, I just want to congratulate Hedberg on having the most total points in the draft. His division wasn't that strong (neither was our's, in terms of high-end teams), but it's still a well-deserved honour for Hedberg, who has made major strides in every draft since coming back to the ATD in ATD 9. When I took a good look at his team, I thought to myself, this is a good, well-built team that works.(If you can get me to vote for your team ahead of mullin's and TC's, you're doing something right).

Some suprises, certainly. Fairly happy with 4th on my first time soloing this; I think I can do some damage from that seed.

I think there is going to be lots of potentitial for upsets, and I hope people vote as such.

Congrats to all the GM's on great teams, especially Hedberg and the other first place finishers. Can't say I'm happy with my finish, but that's just my competetive side showing it's colors. As a rookie though, I am happy with how my team turned out, and I'd like to thank everyone who voted.

Now onto my first round date with MXD, which should be a hell of a battle. Two very good teams, IMO.

Yeah, I bet you do.

Just for fun, Seventieslord's Underdogs: teams that finished much lower than I thought they should have:

1. St. Georges Garaga
2. Hartford Whalers
3. Renfrew Millionaires
4. Kenora Thistles
5. Chicago Blackhawks

Well, can't say I'm happy about the result, actually I'm pretty damn disappointed, but oh well.

What surprised me the most (aside from my team):
- Kenora's poor showing - I had them rated as the best team in whole ATD
- Toros' relatively good showing - I had them last in their division by far
- Medicine Hat winning division where I had them last (even though they were that strong last team I mentioned previously)

and... the whole Lecavalier is just bizzaro version of my rankings:
Code:
Rene Lecavalier Division +/-
Halifax Mooseheads	7
Nanaimo Clippers	6
Nova Scotia Voyageurs	5
Renfrew Millionaires	4
Grand Rapids Owls	1
Detroit Falcons	0
Hamilton Bettmans	-1
The Silver Seven Sons of Canada	-3
Detroit at top and Silver Seven 4th just elude my comprehension.

At least I like my matchup in the 1st round... but then, if having probably the best top 6 lands one 7th place, I shouldn't have big eyes I guess.

St. Georges has a tough first round match-up with Toronto. They'll have to figure out how to stop the best line in the draft, and how to contend with, on paper, the best top four in the draft. (I believe Toronto had the biggest drop of any team from my rankings to the overall finish, although it was close for the top four in that division. 1-4 weren't as close as the Cole, but it was tight).

Hartford's an interesting one. Love Cheevers in the playoffs. That's an intriguing match-up: Cheevers vs. Fuhr. And Hartford's talent up front is imposing. Big, strong, skilled forwards. But outside of Cleghorn, the defence will be an issue.

I am pleased that I avoided Hartford. I know my team's better, but that would still be a tough, grinding five or six-game series. Also glad I avoided New York. That top pairing is as difficult to play against as any in the draft, with their speed and their ferocity.

Last night, when the first couple votes came in after extending the deadline, there was about a three-vote spread in the Cole from first to fourth. I knew who the top four would be; I didn't know the order. But I remember thinking "I don't want to play New York." Syracuse would be okay; I liked our team speed matched up against their defence. I knew that we could go after Hartford's D. And obviously Ottawa took a hit with Cup getting skipped so many times, and late round selections by VanI to fill out the roster. But New York was the one that I did not want to play.

New York is one of two lower seeds that I had a lot higher than their finish. I wouldn't want to face them in the first round either.

The other is Winnipeg - I thought they were a regular season powerhouse, but with questions in the playoffs. I wonder if those playoff questions affected their regular season ranking.

Looks I have my work cut out for me - defend the defense. No problem, I'm pretty confident in it. And the 1st round matchup is favorable in that regard, but let's save that for the matchup thread.

I hope you got my votes in time GBC. I was about 2 hours late.Very dissapointed to see my squad finish last. I guess you guys aren't fans of pure offensive teams LOL.
I'll have a different blueprint for ATD 13 assuming I'll participate which I would like to.

With no bias, I honestly thought the same too. I expected about 2nd-4th, but I knew I'd get a tough playoff opponent. Doesn't get much harder than Nalyd and Sturm.

Renfrew is another team that I'm shocked to see in 6th. I had them and my other top two teams jockeying positions before finally coming to a conclusion. Trinec is another that I thought would be top-3.

Congrats to all the division winners, especially Hed. You've consistently had great teams IMO, but I always thought your entries were underrated, I'm glad to see you're getting recognition.

thanks for doing this gbc - i imagine its quite a bit of work.

i'm pretty pumped for the playoffs - the thistles may have finished low in the regular season but, i built the team for the playoffs. it should be a solid match with a well-built swamp devils squad.

Interesting as I had your team dead last in the Cole division. At least I was closer to the general consensus than you were.

too bad the toros and whalers are in different divisions. could have a great, bitter, grudge match.

but if they both make the finals, it would be even more hateful, b/c it is for the championship.

Just noticed that note.

I'll volunteer to put some up I suppose (they really should hae been up sooner), but how shall I go about this?

Perhaps we get 3 more volunteers who each handle one division?

Thank you. It's pretty cool to have gone from being 6th or 7th in the division to first place.

This was one of the hardest ATDs to rank (especially the Jim Robson division.)

First of all, I wanna thanks GBC to tabulate all the voting; I've done it last draft and it's whole lot of works.

Thank You Sturm! I was hoping to get that top spot yet again, but I honestly thought my reign was due. I was vocal to the fact that I thought the René Lecavalier was the toughest and most competitive division in the draft, so winning the division is for me one hell of an accomplishment. I would of been disappointed, but not totally shocked to have see my team as low as 4.

Halifax is a very good opponent to start the series. In my opinion, a team that wouldn't of finish last in any other division. A talented first line with Bill Gadsby, Tom Johnson and Patrick Roy holding the forth defensively, it will an exciting matchup.

I think the Silver Seven major selling will be Johnny Gagnon as a first line player. If you believe he can thrive with his old buddies, you might believe the Silver Seven is the best team in the draft. If you think he's totally out of place, you might think is a middle of the pack team in a strong division. For myself, I had the Silver Seven as the top team in the division (other than myself). It's speak volume on how much I respect and love the team MXD iced this draft. Any team that can compete with a Pitseleh or Nik jr. team ought ot be a great one.

And I'm always ready to argue on the strength and weaknesses of my team. I think I deserved to win my division, but as I already said I wouldn't of been baffled to see my team as low as 4.
