Good Luck Stalberg! I'll try to give my thoughts on this series later this week. Just click on the link on any of my players if you want more infos on them.

Thanks EB. Tall order for my first ever ATD matchup but it should be fun. I wish I could say I had all my players linked to info as well, but I'm sure you probably already know more about them then I do.

I'll try to comment either after work today or tomorrow.

Also note that I have an assistant coach, Eddie Gerard.

It's a tall order indeed, Stalberg. This is EB and the Detroit Falcons we're talking about here. But put up your best arguments, defend your team, and what will be, will be. If nothing else, it will be good practice. By the time next draft is at this point you'll have read The Trail and will have more experience debating.

Stalberg, get in here and say something! This is no way to handle your first ATD series. Fight for your right to move on!

FACT : The Mooseheads were indeed 8th in the div.
FACT : I don't know if they're an upper or lower half team overall.

Seriously.

Well it's hard for the 8th seed to hope to upset the #1 seed when they don't even fight.

But I will say one thing - if I'm a #1 seed, Patrick Roy might be one player who I would hate to face in the first round more than anyone else.

It's unfortunate that he doesn't defend his team. Funny, those are two of the top 3 teams that deviate the most from where I ranked them, one up one down.

It's the second time you say that, but I'm still waiting for your reasoning behind that statement, as I asked the first time. If Stalberg isn't here to challange my team, MadArcand could challange it instead.

I'll be back around midnight for rebutal if anyone want to start throwing punches

I have little desire in fighting anyone else's battles - especially ones that are, for all intents and purposes, already lost - when the things seem so heavily politics-driven here. I also know that what I see as negative about your team would probably cause too much uproar, and that's just not worth it.

I'm not sure if Patrick Roy can handle this one. I think perhaps that Stalberg's D here is better than EB's for the top-3, but EB's top-6 is very, very good. His team really does lack some toughness that Stalberg has oodles of in quite a few players, but my biggest concern about Stalberg's team is his second line. I'd have split up Verbeek and Clark, honestly. Too much toughness, not nearly enough scoring potential. Verbeek scored 500 goals, but was never top-10 in anything IIRC. Wendel Clark isn't much better. Nieuwy doesn't have much to work with on that line.

Perhaps Stalberg has the better Top-3, but even then it's pretty close. I will definitely give the nod to Bill Gadsby over Bill Quackensbush. Gadsby is one of these player I would love to get my hand on one day. Brilliant offensively and was an all-around force. However, for me it's clear that Lionel Conacher is a far more complete and important defenseman than Tom Johnson and Jimmy Thomson is also a defenseman I would take anydays of the week over Babe Pratt, who's legacy was builted around the War years.

Either way, the big hurdle here for Stalberg is definitely his lack of scoring on the second line.

Go ahead and say what's on your mind. We're all here to learn, as long as we don't start arguing in circles (see some of the other series'...), it's all good. Everyone here is capable of having a clean debate.

Agreed.

I am here to learn, and this I am all for challenging the perceptions of players (assuming you can back it up well, with reasonable arguements), as it is how we learn and develop as a historian group.

Also agree, feel free to get into the discussion in my next if I go through this time around.

Good night.

I'm not sure why anyone would vote for an 8th place team that didn't even make an arguments.....

I'm reading through every debate with the same mindset - the underdog has to convince me why they should win!

Not necessarily!

What if you liked them better to begin with? The fact that they came out lower doesn't reflect what your thoughts were.

If I thought they were better, I was wrong.

Also, if I liked them to begin with, it won't take much to convince me....

If 31 other people think I'm wrong, sometimes I have to admit they might be right.

All it comes down to is analyzing the lineups. A team with Jacques Plante in net has an advantage until they meet Patrick Roy or Dominik Hasek. A team with Steve Thomas on the first line may be weak there - until they meet a team that has, say, Brian Sutter on the first line. Etc. etc.. look at the matchups, not the ranking.

It doesn't mean 31 other people thought so. It might have been 17-14 for all you know.
