He's a highly skilled 23 year old center (who can also play right wing) who has fallen out of favor in Colorado for various reasons (most likely because they have 3 other young centers). He produced huge numbers in the NCAA and in the AHL (0.98 PPG). Heck, even this year in the NHL he has 3 points in 7 games, overall in the NHL his PPG average is 0.35, which is still OK.
He also shoots right. His cap hit is 850 K. Sure, he's small...but at this stage, we are so depleted that this seems like a good opportunity.
I don't see the risk at this point in claiming him. At worse, he sucks and you waive him again.
Given the state of affairs - JT Wyman, really? - I think there is no reason not to grab him. Worst case scenario, if we get him, he fills in for a few games and then we lose him on waivers when people return.
