Hensick, Koistinen on Waivers

Per Bobby Mac.

T.J. Hensick has had the arrows pointing in all the right directions from the NCAA to the AHL. He hasn't even been that terrible in the show, showing off his decent defensive game in a checking role. I think the Avs have brutally misused someone of his talents and I'm shocked they've chosen to waive him. If we're missing a forward for any substantial length of time he'd be the perfect slot-in.

Koistinen, meanwhile, is a better player than Arsene.

Granted, but how many more games is arsene going to be in?

Grebeshkov's only halfway through his projected down-time, isn't he? I'd rather have Koistinen in there over anyone in the minor league system right now because he can be used in a variety of situations.

If we weren't loaded with smurfs who don't play physically, I'd love to take a flyer on Hensick. The current composition of the team makes that impossible though.

I'd grab Hensick too. Something tells me he doesn't make it past the Leafs though.

Sorry but the dump is full. We need to dispose of our own garbage before we can think about going to any garage sales. We may find ourselves on the next Oprah hoarding episode.

Wow @ Hensick.

He's better then what is usually found on the waiver wire for sure. I actually liked the game he brings. Solid skater, a tad small, but willing to mix it up a bit.

Not likely to be a top 6 player or anything, but a solid 3rd liner for sure. I'm surprised the Avs are moving him this way. I'd have thought someone would have been willing to trade for him.

As for Koistinen...he is better then Arcene, but I don't see the great value in us picking him up. There is a reason he's gone from Nashville to Florida to waivers in less then a year.

Not that Cogs has been lights out this year, but hopefully this brings some closure to the ridiculous Hensick v.s. Cogs debates that were had here last year.

This sounds intriguing. I'd actually waive Poo and Nilsson and grab Hensick. Like someone said earlier. I have a feeling he will be a leaf.

Or a Cane, they might like a kid like this. I don't see the need to move Poo who's been just hurt all season.

He'll have some excuse he always does. He will debate everything to no end and when he is wrong he finds some way to spin it and then turn the subject to other positives that he has pointed out like LA and how dominant Chicago will be for years to come.

IMO he has been passed by Reddox and Potulny on teh depth chart and this team really has no need for what he can bring.

But then again maybe he comes back flying liek JFJ and we see the Pouliot that we saw at the end of the 07-08 season. But that is probably just wishful thinking.

Actually he's played almost exclusively at the wing these days. I can't remember the last time he was at center (might've been this season but only in a 4th line role). It was the fact that Jones and Galiardi passed him up on the RW depth chart that finally led to this. Avs probably would have done this sooner if not for the many injuries befalling the forward ranks.

Hensick has a lot of talent, but just doesn't seem to have the work ethic. Refuses to work on his defensive game. I'd be kind of surprised if he clears. There are some teams (Toronto, Carolina, Montreal) who are hurting up front right now.

After what Jacques has done this year, I want to give Poo the benefit of the doubt right now.

The difference is that Jacques has a "dimension" to his game. Pouliot is fairly generic, and will need to carve a spot on this team by doing something exceptionally well, right now that's not the case.

A plus for Pouliot is that a lot fo the players havn't done much to their credit. So it will give Pouliot a chance to redeem himself. If I'm a betting man I would bet that he doesn't take advantage, but there is no real harm in giving him the opportunity. Unless Pouliot is requested from another team in a trade there is no real need to just dump him for nothing right now.

I think Pouliot DOES bring something to the team (like Jacques) that isn't replicated - size in the middle. He's an acceptable faceoff man and, while never truly leaning on people, he doesn't get pushed around either. I think him replacing Cogliano in the middle and letting him move to the wing makes the team better. I don't see how, in its present incarnation, Hensick makes the team better.

Avs fans will tell you that Cogliano is nothing and Hensick is the only reason why he was even drafted
