Nope, that he didn't. I wouldn't take it as a knock against Seguin as much as I would say that Canada isn't losing as many of the NHL this time.

TEAM TYLER or TEAM TAYLOR, that is the question.

Lots of draft eligible guys and top rated prospects each year are left off the team, it's just the way it is and the way the selection process is. Doesn't mean anything. In 2003 draft eligible guys like Staal, Horton (two of the highest rated junior players in all of junior hockey that year), Getzlaf, Carter, Richards, Burns, Phaneuf, Seabrook were all left off the team, yet were projected 1st round picks and top end, highly touted junior players. Some higher rated prospects for the draft than others obviously, but it's not out of the ordinary to have top prospects for that years draft not on the team. Generally you'll get a couple/few on the team, maybe it's just 1 or 2, but that's it. Next year will be their time, if they're still in junior/if their NHL team let's them go. Just the way it goes.

In general, it's guys who have already been drafted who get the call.

I think he was talking about us drafting Fowler instead of Seguin or Hall.

i think he was refering to our draft thread that basically only addresses Taylor and Tyler and mostly ignores Folwer. We just desperately need a 1st line wingers without having to pay first line money....hence the winger talk and ignoring of Fowler at this point.

i could see this this changing if we manage to acquire something first line related at the deadline......regardless i think Hall is #1 but i could see us taking Fowler if we end up with pick #2(assuming the ship continues to take on water at this generous rate)

Either did Matt Duchene last year. He was pretty devastated.

Glad my Leafs could help you guys out with a recent hot streak. We want you guys getting Hall or Seguin, not Boston.

Talk about getting caught up talking about the Canadian team.. i'm not sure what I was thinking considering Fowler isn't even Canadian.

I am a moron.

I got to watch Tyler Seguin last night as the Plymouth Whalers made a trip to town. I was very unimpressed. Of course, this is one, small, game we're talking about here and it doesn't matter who your name is, you'll likely have an off night. Combine that with him just returning from the Canadian Junior camp the day prior, and he could have been a little tired. They gave Hackett the night off, who was also returned with Seguin. What also led me to believe they may have been going easy on Seguin was he was out on the #2 PP, more so later on in the game. All I saw out of him all night was one pretty decent pass in which he lifted it 2.5 feet in the air, crisp, tape to tape and a really nice wrist shot that went 10 feet wide above the net. His skating looked alright but didn't stand out. He didn't compete very hard at all, for loose pucks, along the boards, etc.

I would definitely have (Or I am hoping) to say Seguin was tired, maybe a little bummed out about not making team Canada, or it very well could have been an off game for him. He didn't stand out at all, not once. With it being only one game, i'll have to write this one off. Too bad as I was hoping to get a good look at him like I did with Hall.

Thanks for the input Guerzy. Will you get a chance to see him again soon to see if this was just an anomaly?

That was definitely an off-game. Much of what you described is not like Tyler Seguin at all.

That was their only trip to town this season.

Tampa had their 7th (or 6th?) straight loss yesterday and dropped to 29th spot. They better fire this stupid idiot Tochett.

Haven't they had enough top 2 round picks in past few years already?

I know..they are making me very nervous. I am not liking what is happening down there at all. Only an 9 point cushion with a game in hand.

I think Tampa has only one win in thir last 11 prior to last night, and heading into last night I believe the Rangers had lost 18 of their past 25 games.

Take nothing for granted. Far too many games left. A 9 or 11 point cushion is nothing at this point in time.

It goes to show you how high draft picks can sometimes end up not being great NHL stars. If I were JR, I'd be working hard to turn our potentially high 1st round pick into Brandon Dubinsky ASAP. Let's go ahead and get a proven star before our 1st round guy loses value. That is, unless we go ahead and trade Stall for him.

In other news, were we to trade and acquire a low first, say from Boston or Chicago, do you think JR would go ahead and pick the guy, or use this as trade bait to move up in the first or move it for an NHLer? JR usually isn't one to wheel and deal during the draft, but I think in this case he may pick up his gem with our potentially high pick and then use another 1st as bait. This is all speculation of course, but I'm curious to see how it all plays out.

Also, when do you think John Wall will be drafted? If we have a pick at 3-5, will he still be available? He has great vision - could he quarterback our power play?

Maybe I'm missing the joke, but who is John Wall?

A guy that's being paid () by John Calipari to play basketball for the University of Kentucky. Almost certain to be the #1 player in the NBA draft this year.

edit: seriously, when is the NCAA going to start punishing the coaches rather then just the teams they used to coach? Sure, the school is at fault for not making sure he was following all the guidelines, but that means the coach should just be free to jump from place to place with nothing coming down on him specifically as well?

Minnesota's cheating. They're setting their equipment on fire to lose games.

Tampa beat the Blues tonight. They're up to the 33 group.
