Hall had a goal in the first period of the exhibition game against Sweden but was injured near the end of the period and was held out for precautionary measures.

Combine that with him just returning from the Canadian Junior camp the day prior, and he could have been a little tired. They gave Hackett the night off, who was also returned with Seguin. What also led me to believe they may have been going easy on Seguin was he was out on the #2 PP, more so later on in the game. All I saw out of him all night was one pretty decent pass in which he lifted it 2.5 feet in the air, crisp, tape to tape and a really nice wrist shot that went 10 feet wide above the net. His skating looked alright but didn't stand out. He didn't compete very hard at all, for loose pucks, along the boards, etc.

I would definitely have (Or I am hoping) to say Seguin was tired, maybe a little bummed out about not making team Canada, or it very well could have been an off game for him. He didn't stand out at all, not once. With it being only one game, i'll have to write this one off. Too bad as I was hoping to get a good look at him like I did with Hall.

Perfect! Sounds like he'll fit right in with our squad- Sign him up!!

Hall had 2 assists today in Canada's 16-0 drubbing of Latvia. Surprised he didnt have more points, as he was on a line with Nazem Kadri and I believe Jordan Eberle. Gabriel Borque tied a toruney record with 7 pts (3g, 4a). The 2 assists he had were on Kadri's 2 goals, and the second one was a very pretty corss-ice pass through 2 Latvian defenders. He looked very dominant with the puck, but then again, so did everyone in solid red today lol.

we're setting ourselves up nicely for one hell of a draft. Will be interesting to see where we go from here with no Corvo though. We'll probably try to package that Caps 2nd and one of the ones from this year to trade up into the late first.

I didn't know where to put this so I'll try here and if it's the wrong place I'll remove. With all those picks, us being generally a poor drafting team, and a limited UFA crop next year I think we should look at some RFAs.

This year's RFA compensation was

$2,615,623 - $3,923,437 (1st and 3rd round pick)

$3,923,437 - $5,231,249 (1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick)

$5,231,249 - $6,539,062 (Two 1st’s, one 2nd, one 3rd round pick)

I left off anything higher because I don't think that'll be reasonable.

Just a few of the RFAs that I'd love to see offers for;

James Neal, Marc Staal, Erik Johnson, Nicklas Backstrom, Bobby Ryan

I'm sure teams will match if they could but I think Rutherford being the gentleman that he is will only offer for a team that is cash strapped and won't be able to match for various reasons. This assuming the trade avenue fails first.

I'd rather package some picks and make some trades in the offseason. Those RFA's won't be going anywhere. We'd have to offer waaay too much for their respective teams not to match. And at that point we'd be overpaying for the player AND giving up a crap load of picks. Just not worth it.

The way the Canes are playing vs. other teams at the bottom though..I suspect all those picks that are #3 per round will really end up #5 - 8.

Staal could be a nice potential snipe. The Rangers cap situation isn't exactly too friendly right now and they wouldn't be able to match anything too significant.

Not sure of any other teams in tough cap situations with defensemen that they could afford to move. Chicago maybe, but who knows. They already cleared out Barker and they're likely to move a forward over a dman at this point.

Maybe we can make a play for Liles with a couple of those seconds if the Avs are interested in moving him this offseason.

Most likely, in fact I'm kindof resigned to the fact that we're going to be picking between Gormley, Gudbranson, Connolly, Tarasenko, Granlund and Nino in the first instead of Seguin, Hall or Fowler. But the draft is deep enough that there's not much of a difference between #31-33 and #38. With the way things are shaping up we could still pick up a really nice defenseman prospect in the early 2nd along the lines of Jon Merill, Jared Tinordi or John Ramage.

You can't be serious. But if you are Boston moves Toronto's pick + salary in a heart beat for that.

Dude isn't a Canes fan. Canes aren't trading Staal.

This has been batted around on the Bruins and Oilers board... So I have to ask Carolina fans what their thought is.

If Carolina ends up with pick #3 what would you give up to move to 2?
If Carolina ends up with pick #2 what would you want to move down to 3?

Edmonton fans want the #2 pick plus Boston's for the Bruins to move from 2 to 1.
Most Boston fans are just happy picking in the top-3, so I can't see them being willing to offer anything major to jump a spot.

I can see the Canes offering one of the seconds they acquired in our trades this year to move up, but that's about all I can see being offered. There really isn't a lot separating the top 3 this year so I just don't see too much happening there. If I'm not mistaken all that the Pens gave up to move from 3 to 1 in 03 were #3 (obviously), a 2nd and Mikael Samuelsson before he was any good. And the Pens also got a 3rd back in the deal. I would think something like #3 and SJs second would be fair value to go from 3 to 2, and likewise I think something like #3 and (insert second here) to move from 2 to 3 would work. Oilers fans asking for THAT much when there's hardly any difference between Hall, Seguin and Fowler in terms of prospect value are completely out to lunch IMO.

It's not really over. I know people are all optimistic with our team again since we've had a winning record the last quarter or so of the season, but look at the team we're rolling out there right now and look at the standings. It's not a given we jump all the teams ahead of us in the standings anymore and we currently sit with the 3rd overall pick. So if the standings stay the same, technically we have a chance at Seguin or Hall depending on the lottery results (or who the Bruins select). Now I don't necessarily think we will get either, but all things considered it's not completely out of the question.

It's entirely possible that they could go into the last few games of the season with a shot at both. It's also possible that they finish 9th and pick in the top 10, however unlikely. Look at the West 9-13 compared to the East.
