At some point though, it gets to the point where the players can't wait for the coach to say the magic words and the light goes off. If that's what we're waiting for, it doesn't matter who the coach is, we won't win anything.
Again I will ask you, what is the solution, which of the players do you trade before trying a different direction with the coach ?

Thinking I didn't miss much. I heard we out shot and out played these guys. That's what I heard via 610. However that may be biased.

That's why I said firing the coach has to be done at the perfect time. Holmgren backed himself into a corner with that - and that's his fault. There's no more draft picks to trade, not many prospects the Flyers are willing to or can afford to trade. I maintain that John Stevens will be fired when Ed Snider has had enough, Holmgren does not want to have to do it. The one thing the Flyers don't have, is options, and that's a very bad position to be in when you have yet to prove you're a Stanley Cup Contender.

I don't think we can wait for the perfect time, we have slid down in the standing and we have a TOUGH 10 games coming up, we could be in Maple LEaf land by christmas if changes are not made.

Unfortunately, our esteemed GM, forced the team in that position. The options are few. What happens if it turns out the coach wasn't actually the problem? Then what? You can trade Carter and Coburn to reload the weapons, and prove that no one player is above anything, but you don't have many tradeable assets. You can't trade Pronger, Richards, Briere, Hartnell, Timonen. Giroux and JVR aren't going anywhere. You don't have draft picks. Not many prospects who we can afford to trade. Beyond that you're into bottom 6 forwards and your 3rd pair defensemen...not exactly forceful impact players. Although it seems that Blair Betts is an impact player, we don't win without him.

They won't miss the playoffs though.

hypothetically, what DO you think we could get for a carter/coburn package?

Any team that needs to put Mika Pyorala out for a 3rd period power play when trailing by a goal is going to struggle in this league.

I would not be surprised if he is saving that maneuver against Vancouver.

Can't show all your cards in one game.

I'm not sure what your point is. The coaches decide who to put on the ice. First you complain that they put Pyorala out there and then you made some comment about Cote and Kalinski being on the bench. I don't see what the connection is. Or how that helps you prove your point.

What cards?

His tactics are line changes.

Isn't that one of the main reasons Chris Pronger was brought here? Why doesn't the guy with the ring who we gave up essentially 4 1st round draft picks and gave a 7-year contract be the guy who does these things?
What about blaming the Captain who hasn't gotten it done instead of blaming the veterans that we've just brought in?

1 - I addressed that.

2 - Because this was a reason they were brought in.

Still, Pronger would have been the last player I chose to single out because he is everything you could ask for in a leader. Lappy has been doing his job as well. It's the young core of this team that need to step up their game. These guys are in their 5th league into the season, it's time for everyone to stop making excuses for them.

Did anyone notice how during the timeout at the end of the game, Stevens was talking while an assistant coach was diagramming a play a few feet away? It seemed like some players were listening to Stevens and others were trying to focus on the assistant coach. Pronger had to physically pull Richards over to pay attention to what was being drawn up. ("Uh, hey, Mike, you'll probably be out on the ice here for this final shift as we try to score the game-tying goal. Might want to pay attention to the play we're going to run.") That's pretty much this team in a nutshell.
