I almost feel the pick would need to be added by us not by them. But otherwise it is in line with the article on the trade forum.

ANd of course I would do it,

I don't suppose he has any idea about how we would fit Staal under the cap?

Either way, make the trade first, solve cap issues later.

As per discussion on the main board I would offer the Hurricanes : Gagner, Cogliano, and Gilbert. Plus they can keep their pick. Just please give us their 100pt 40 goal scoring BIG young hasn't hit prime yet, stanley cup winning, canadian Centerman.

Oiler fans would do back flips

Don't see canes doing it

Oilers would need to add a first from the canes perspective

Only if the pick is their first overall and thus a lottery pick.

I mean, come on Eklund at least try and make the fake rumours somewhat realistic.

it would make sense for the canes to want something like hemsky, nilsson and gilbert. take hemsky and his injury that way they can tank this season pick up a hell of a draft pick and have hemsky ready to go.

It would take so, so much to get Staal out of Carolina. Lubo, Gagner, Propsect, 1st might keep them from laughing and hanging up on us.

LOL at believing anything that Eklund says but just to throw my opinion in, there's no way in he(double hockey sticks) that Carolina ever does that trade but if by some miracle they do, i will go streaking around my neighborhood and document the footage on video for you guys.

Do not want Eric Staal at 8 million. This guy has been on a steady downhill slope since 05/06. He is not worth that kind of money. Plus you know, he would not want to be coming here - at least at this point in time.

I am amazed every one is so in favor of this. Sad but Edmonton fans would do anything for a Name player. cogs and Grebs could both be locked up to good contracts. i love Staal and for 7 mill would be all over him, but he is not a 8.5 mill dollar player. He would get 75 poins a year in the NW.

Hahahahaha, yeah right.

Okgooil, we need to add elite talent. You can't win without it. Staal has past 100p seasons, he is big, and he is still young. Guys that are currently living up to their big contracts aren't available and elite talent playing over their cap hit is untouchable. If we want to add elite level talent we need to either draft it or take a bit of a risk and get a previous elite guy who is available and hope he can regain his form. Staal is 100% worth the risk, esp at that cost. I love Cogs and Grebs and all, but Staal between Hemsky(eventually) and Penner is a legit top line against any team in the league. If Carolina has gone nuts and Staal is available, and they like this deal, we do it every day of the week. It doesn't cost us our 1st, Lubo, Souray, Hemsky, Penner, Gagner, MPS or Eberle.

Remember, Pronger was coming off of two off seasons(for him) before we picked him up. That was a big reason why he was available.
