I say it will, it won't make the team that much "better" as much as it will allow the sick and injured to heal up and the team to be generally more effective.

I really like lubo's interview about the favorite away arena, the ending of his interview with gilbert was awesome.

Going back to what most people were saying in the off season--Oilers lack a goal scorer and a shut down d-man and until they get those--they can practice, rest, play with themselves watching replays and run around naked in the dressing room--but in the big picture it does not make a lot of difference.

Why people are up in arms in beside me--we knew going into this season it would be tough to make the play off's--with what has happen---it is impossible.

My suggestion--as fans--we need to sit back, relax, scratch ourselves and drink beer and burp.

The oilers are not ONE player away from the playoffs--they have multiple holes that need to be fixed and then some.

Atleast it looks more and more that the oilers will get a god pick finally...

unless they do what they usually do and find a way to win and get into the 10th to 15th position and draft a"project" yet again

nah.
thats only partially correct.
this teams execution of systems and basic fundamentals is pretty wretched. and it comes as the players DEVELOP (which is a continual process anyhow). just plugging in "goal scorer" and "defensive D-man" doesnt fix those things in the least. development does. theres way too many players on this team who are not mature enough in their game (REGARDLESS OF AGE or PHASE of CAREER) to execute a high level of hockey.

if Heatley was here right now, as "goal scorer", this team wouldnt be qualitatively better at executing as a whole and they might be slightly better in situations with the Defensive D-man (and that really depends on who that is).

Was Gagner at #6 not a good pick? Is MPS a project?

If only the coaching staff could use hindsight, they would have seen that we needed some bigger players and would have taken Jake Voracek. I guess at the time they had Nilsson and Cogs in the system but didn't know how either would turn out. Either way they already had small players in the system and should have drafted a need. They were a wash in terms of BPA.

Either way the extended time off will not do anything for this team except for help healed some of the injured players but that's it.

I think it allows another week for "loser culture" to set in. The weekend was brutal. With the fragile makeup of this team I can't imagine the navel gazing is going to be overly helpful.

I hope not.

This team has a lot of losing to do before it can compete with Carolina for Taylor Hall.

Fortunately, the Oilers are abysmal on the road. I'm hoping for a winless road trip.

Big trouble with the Oilers, a small solution to try and fix it, from TSN's Ferraro.

This break might be enough time to get Khabibulin back, as well as Stone and possibly Nilsson? Chorney is also day-to-day so he may be able to return and bump someone out.

So yes, I think this break will make a difference.

Basically, is it possible for them to get much worse? (I so just tempted fate there, I know.) So in that sense it can't hurt them, at least.

From here on in, you have to solely accept the blame for any and all losses. We all have it in writing.

They're already losing and getting injured left and right, so that continuing isn't technically getting any "worse".

Touche! I guess you're off the hook then. I just really, really, really want them to win at least one of the two games I'm at in Florida next week. Both would of course be super, I mean its not like its a short trip right?

At least you can forget about it by drinking pina coladas by the pool or something. When they lose in Edmonton, you just ... go home in -20.
