Silfverberg is 13, Petersson is 20, Cowen is 22. I haven't noticed Petersson since Pierre pointed him out as the guy who almost put the puck in his own net. I don't think that one mistake was enough to get him benched (lord knows that was the least of Sweden's worries so far), so I'm worried he might be hurt.
Petersson hasn't had much icetime. Silverberg is Sweden's standout forward thus far. Nothing overly flashy with his game, but he has size, is strong along the boards and can really shoot the puck. Looks like he's playing a style that would work well in the NHL. Posted via Mobile Device
I'm pretty sure that awesome giveaway Kadri had near the end of the game was to Silfverberg. Also of note: Silfverberg was by far the most noticeable Swede in the game. I don't know whether it was actually because he was really good or just because I was watching for him specifically, but it felt like he was always doing something worthwhile when he was on the ice.
after seeing silvferberg play for the first time, im pretty excited about that pick
I think it's a pretty solid pick. Personally I think Silfverberg is going to have more of an impact than Petersson based entirely on his style of play. Petersson is a slick fancy guy, but a lot of his tricks won't translate into the NHL and it could be a steep learning curve for him.
Silfverberg could be thrown on to a line with Regin and Michalek and would excel in all aspects of play. He's a bit like Alfredsson or Fisher in terms of his gritty two way game. Posted via Mobile Device
I'm not sure if Petersson was benched or left the game. He played horribly in the first period, wasn't ever noticeably injured, and then never saw the ice again. I believe Sweden had 13 forwards dressed, so its possible he was just stuck on the bench. We'll see, but either way he didn't look good.
Cowen was fine. He looked somewhat uncomfortable, but it never cost him. Just wasn't sharp with his apsses and tended to overpursue in the defensive zone. If he can keep his spot with Pieterangelo then he'll see icetime. If he loses that spot, and De Haan looked good tonight, then he may just be a PP specialist. Hopefully he shows more next game.
The good news? Silfverberg is awesome. This was the first time I'd seen him play, and I was thrilled. He and Tedenby were the best Swedish forwards, even if Pierre Maguire was too busy drooling over Canadian teenagers to make note of it. He earned more and more icetime as the game went on, winning battles along the boards and creating scoring chances from that. He seems to have a knack for finding the puck. He also showed a great two way game, playing on the PK effectively and always being in position. I see him having a big role on the Swedish team. He's a coach pleaser, and has offensive upside.
Cowen was amazing defensively, I don't know what you guys are talking about. Offensively he didn't do anything, but he was king of his own zone. He stole the puck from Tedenby twice and made it look easy. That's saying a lot, since Tedenby was arguably Sweden's best forward and is an offensive dynamo. His penalty killing was awesome as well.

He was solid, and I suppose when you're talking about defensive game you could call that being amazing. I don't think he had his best game. Yes, he stole the puck from guys and made some good plays. He also struggled at times with his outlet pass and got caught running between guys down-low on the PK. Fortunately with his reach he can afford to do that and not get in too much trouble.
I'm not saying he was bad, but he can definitely play better, which to me is a positive.
Cowen didn't make team Canada or attain his draft position by playing an offensive game or because he has outstanding skills. He merited these honours with his ability to shut down the opposition and to physically dominate. His offense will take a while or might not ever develop the way the organization hoped but you have an elite junior defensive defenseman who looks like he will be able to fill the same role in the NHL.

Overall a so-so showing for Sens prospects.
Sounds like Alfie, just like Murray said. lol. But ya was all over the ice, looks like hes got a good wrister too. Just 18, is he eligible to come over NA next year? By the way he looked last night Id think he could challenge for a top 6 role by the time he's 20 or maybe earlier.

I hope so. The Senators drastically need some 3rd round and later steals to solidify forward depth.
