A third of respondents named the Habs when asked to identify 'Canada's team,' compared with a quarter who said the same for their archrival Toronto Maple Leafs.

Canada's team will suit up in February.

I was just in the process of making a thread on the NHL board. Let's see how well that goes.

This is something we already know, however posting this on the Leafs board may enlighten many.

Won't matter to CBC, that's the sad part.

for the TV folks, the leafs are still canada's team.

The habs fanbase gets split by RDS and CBC whereas the leafs fanbase is almost 100% english.

I'm not surprised that the habs have more fans though. In my experience out west, I get the feeling as well

Not really a surprise. 24 Stanley Cups. Most successful Canadian franchise there is.

Habs are Montreal's team. There shoudn't be a team that is labeled as canada's team because there are 5 other teams with plenty of fans all around the country

So do I.

I personally know one person who is a Sens' fan. I don't know anyone who is a Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver fan.

This doesn't mean that Ottawa's fanbase is bigger than the other team's.

I've met no Ottawa fans who aren't former Ottawans, they have to be the most regional of Canadian fanbases by a wide margin.

I spent a few years in Quebec, alot of years in south-ontario, and of all the Ottawa fans I know, no one's ever lived there. Sure I only know like 10 of them but still

I think a good metric (and non-anecdotal, like "I have some friends") is that even though Ottawa charges more for Toronto and Montreal games advertising them as "optimum"/"premium", Toronto and Montreal (last time I checked) don't return the favour. Is there any team that identifies Ottawa as a premium matchup?

still closer to Ottawa than Calgary?

I've met tons of Ottawa fans near Ottawa and around Toronto. They might not be widespread across Canada, but they exist, especially in Ontario.

Put it on ignore then, smart ass.

I'll read it and laugh at the posters who get pissed off and offended over the poll. You just know some posters will lose sleep tonight over that.

Now to get some French Canadian refs out there. Way too many Ontarians and Westerners at the moment.

And even Torontonians agree that Kerry Fraser should never ref again.

Even if Montréal games weren't on RDS and only CBC on Saturday, Toronto would still get priority. GTA is the most densely populated area in Canada.

You live in Ontario. Chances are, if you lived out west you would know more Vancouver, or Calgary, or Edmonton fans than all of Toronto, Ottawa. and Montréal.

Ottawa's fanbase seems to be the smallest in Eastern Canada. Whenever Toronto, or Montréal play them, their own arena gets taken over.

Canada's team only comes around once every 4 years.
