Ballard needs to be suspended for that moment of stupidity. My eight year old son(who plays hockey) was horrified when we saw that replay.

I was thinking a fine, basically for something tantamount to poor conduct. I don't think that's unreasonable. I don't doubt he feels bad, and will hopefully make it up to Voukun, but still just to kind of set a president for a code of conduct with regards to the team.

From the main board:

http://panthers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=508052

Panthers goalie Tomas Vokoun is on his way back to South Florida with the team Monday night after being taken to an Atlanta-area hospital due to a lacerated ear after being accidentally hit by a teammate’s stick. Vokoun required several stiches to close up the deep laceration.

Good to hear. That was really ugly looking. I can only imagine what it woulda been if it was a skater and not a goalie.

I believe you are getting head injuries confused with inbreeding.

I think Ballard just needs some glasses. Obviously the guy is near sighted! I'd hate to see him at the golf course

It wasn't the opposing goaltender.

You're allowed to beat up your own goaltender, with two-handers across the face and such. (Discretion usually called for.)

Hope he's okay.

It's kind of arguable that other players do the same all the time, but it's really not at the same time. Ballard should watch out when he's winging around his stick like that, maybe check if there's someone in your line of fire?

Best wishes for Vokoun.

That Sportsnet clip was painful. What a crappy network.

An absolute joke. Ballard should be ashamed of myself.

I would have a hard time getting over it if I was Vokoun.

Hockey players are plain old dumb...

On a side note, good to see the crowds continue to file into Phillips Arena

Guaranteed Atlanta won't be in the NHL in 3 years.

It's ok, it wasn't your fault.

Seriously though, he is devastated. I'm sure they will work it out as a team. Thankfully Vokoun will be ok.

I thought the whole ordeal was pretty funny, yes. There is something about someone doing something so stupid and unexpected that I find entertaining.

I am in no way being sarcastic towards Vokoun's injury by I had to comment: At least Ballard was showing real emotion on the ice. That is something I think is in short supply on the Oil...

Oh man, and then the stretcher came onto the ice! I couldn't control myself either!

happy to hear Vokoun will be fine.
I wonder how Roli would have reacted to something like that

Same team or not, accidental or not, that's a stick swinging incident and he should be suspended regardless.
