TSN has Pierre McGuire doing color commentary. I don't care who Sportsnet has, TSN will always be crap for having McGuire.

Pierre McGuire looks like a golden god of hockey knowledge compared to the "experts" on Sportsnet.

Oh come on, yeah it was a dumb thing to do on his part but players smash their sticks against the goal just about every game (which doesn't make it right), it just so happens that Ballard has really bad aim OUCH Poor Vokoun
Good thing that goalies wear masks or that could have been really ugly if it happened back in the day.

If McGuire "looked" like a hockey player (less like a stereotypical geek) and his voice didn't crack when he gets excited, most of the haters would say he's one of the best hockey commentators on TV.

To tell you the truth my hate for McGuire has nothing to do with his looks or voice. It has to do with the stupid **** that he constantly says all game long. His monsters of the game and the players that even if they are having a ****** game (Dion) he will constantly keep talking about them non-stop. The guy is a hack and is biased when he does comentary during a game.

Now that TSN has Ferarro, Pierre should be taking some notes.

You should probably take him out of hockey. Every level of hockey that I have watched. The majority of the players are dip****s. It's not like Ballard is the first one.

I like his passion for the game. He has his man crushes, yes. Does anyone at Sportsnet have any redeeming qualities, really? The Oilers PBP crew is fine, but everyone else there... yeesh.

Vokoun apparently felt well enough on the plane last night to talk to Ballard and tell him to forget about the incident, although Vokoun might have mentioned that Ballard owes him a number of free dinners. As for their teammates, as soon as it became apparent Vokoun was going to be okay, it would be fair to say the Panther players are having much fun at Ballard's expense and the ribbing has already begun. That's probably the best therapy for Ballard, who was naturally devastated after the incident.

Fair enough, and that might say ALOT about where Sportsnet is an all-sports network if Portuondo is one of their top guys.

Fixed.

Pierre McGuire is a really smart hockey guy (met him a couple of weeks ago and really changed my opinion of him), but you wouldn't know it by his TV persona. It's like he abandons it for the sake of being a hype man.

It's strange, in the US, alot of the colour commentators do things like break down the game for the whole team (forgot what game I watched a week ago where the colour guy went right through and explained the forecheck a team was running and what each players responsibility was).

In Canada, it's all about hyping and singling out individual players for mistakes or good plays.

Ya I notice this a lot too, especially when watching California teams. LA, San Jose, Anaheim (these guys in particular)... They really go out of their way to explain what's happening out there.

I think part of it has to do with the fact that the fans there are sort of in that middle area of learning. They're not complete noobs anymore, so you don't really have to tell them what an offside is, or what a forecheck is, but they're not quite at the point where they can recognize the positional aspect of the game right away. So the announcers are able to dig in to that part of things.

In Canada, there's an assumption that people understand the positional stuff, so it's not quite as important to talk about it. It's why I really appreciate Kelly Hrudey's approach up here, because his analysis is usually very team play focused, something we don't get enough of.

I never really saw this touched on in here. But the guy(Vokoun) was totally fine by the end of the night. Was it really necessary to take the guy off on a stretcher?
