They were concerned because the bleeding was in the ear. Hard for them to tell at that point if it was just an external laceration (which it was), or internal, which would have been more serious - ie. pressure in the skull, perforated eardrum, not to mention they couldn't rule out concussion. I would say they handled it properly on the ice.

I suppose so. But I would hope doctors would have been able to tell it was an external laceration especially when Nokoun didn't really look any worse for wear. But I suppose it was just a case of better safe than sorry. But it just made it seem even more overblown.

Kind of hard to tell I think when you have blood in the ear - you don't know if it's just pooling in there or also coming from further inside which could indicate damage to the internal ear or within the skull. Best to err on the side of caution. Thankfully he's ok, could have been much worse.

Exactly. They should bring in a stretcher crew for the strechers, too. Just to be safe.
