AdAge - NHL Breaks Campaign for Biggest Game of Regular Season

Came across this at work. Interesting to read from a advertising perspective.

i really think they should try a football field instead of a baseball, maybe that makes too much sense.

Baseball fields offer more of the old timey nostalgia they are going for than do football fields. Of the modern football stadiums, only a few have both the nostalgia and the weather to pull it off. Soldier Field is classic enough. And Lambeau. After that you're down to flashy new stadiums. Or domes.

I was there and it was friggin incredible! I'll have to post the pics from the tailgate party sometime. The bars are open until 4am there and this is the day after New Years eve. I pull into the parking lot at 8am and we must've been the last ones there.

They've done these in college too. U of M and MSU played each other around 2000 before the NHL ever did it. Wisconsin played OSU at Lambeau Field a few years back.

There are plenty of other footbal stadiums besides the NFL stadiums to have the games at. I think it would've been cool if they had the Red Wings/Blackhawks game at the Big House in Ann Arbor because nobody would ever be able to top a sell out there.

Gillette Stadium had been under consideration for the Bruins and the Kraft family had offered it to the Bruins but they chose Fenway instead.
