Citytv broadcast Edm @ Det

Just wondering if anyone knows why Citytv is airing the game? And who will be doing play by play and color?

I guess I'll have to have the volume turned down. Those clowns were the worst. EVER. I remember when the Oilers banned those two from interviewing players during intermission due to the fact they were brutal.

Oh God, please no. I don't feel like wanting to put my fist through the TV screen again.

It’s also important to note that that Oilers PPV was created as a vehicle to broadcast Oiler games which would not otherwise be broadcast and we remain true to that initiative.

This year Rogers Sportsnet West chose to reduce the number of Oilers games they broadcast from 48 to 40. The Oilers PPV schedule is determined after CBC, TSN and Sportsnet select their Oilers games.

The Oilers endeavor to get the remaining games on PPV, although that isn’t always possible – this year two Oilers games will not be available on television, although the Oilers plan to deliver them via their website at no charge.

I would rather have for one night only Rod Phillips on the tube since you can't listen to radio and watch tv at the same time anymore. And quite possibly could be his last year doing it.

Because Sportsnet could only commit to 40 so they put the 41st on CityTV...Rogers owns both networks.

It'll be the same as the Sportsnet broadcasts...Mean Gene Principe, Kevin Quinn and Louie DeBrusk.

Next Wednesday's game will be available via EdmontonOilers.com. As well as one later in the season against Chicago. Same hosts for these as well.

It looks that way. It's listed in my TV guide.

There is, but I don't know what region it is. I'm on Telus TV and channel 623 is CityTVHD...but they're not showing the game.

Does anyone know if Rogers reduced the number of games because of declining ratings or just cuz the team blows right now?

Neither. 40 games is what they agreed to when they signed their contract several years ago, if I remember correctly.

The contract was front-loaded.

I think this is the first year they've ever had more Flamers games on Sportsnet. Either way, hopefully the CityTV broadcast isn't terrible. And why is a game featuring the Blackhawks NOT being broadcast? That sounds pretty ridiculous

Because As High Scoring and High Paced the Blackhawks are, I find the games against them really draggy and lame. And not just cuz we usually get effed in the a by them

I actually had to look up what channel this is because I don't think I've watched anything on that channel for years.

Go over on the site and theres zero indication they even know they are televising the game.

Then I look onto the schedule and at least its there as "NHL GAME"

http://tv.citytv.com/schedule/edmonton/week/

Also amazed how bad its possible for a television station to become.

They could probably point a camera directly outside their studio on Jasper Ave from morning to night and have more riveting programming.

"cougar town"?!

jebus, lets hope "judge judy" doesn't get held over into extra time..

They were bought out by CTV and the plan was to shut down the station, but the CRTC said they weren't allowed to IIRC. CTV basically runs the station on a shoestring budget so more money can be allocated to CFRN.

In our case we have two games scheduled to be televised on CityTV: one due to a time conflict with World Series (SNET ended up showing the game anyway thanks to Yankees taking care of the business early) and the other one in February due to Olympic obligations.

Thanks. That kind of explains the all dreck all day lineup that time forgot.

A-Channel used to have the best news program in the city. I really wish that channel hadn't gotten run into the ground.
