They reduced their games from 48 to 40 as well. It was too big of a headache trying to schedule 48 Oilers games, 48 Flames games, as well as other stuff. I'm not sure if I read that somewhere or it was discussed during a game.

EDIT: Turns out I was wrong. Flames get 44 games not just 40. http://www.channelcanada.com/Article3608.html

For some reason the guide on Shaw doesn't show hockey on CityTV.. I hope that's wrong. Also I'm not aware of an HD City TV on Shaw (Edmonton). Anyone??

That's a nice idea, but why just one night?

I'd like that too. The last time I remember Rod doing an Oiler game on TV was during the '78-79 season which was the last year of the WHA. I recall colourman Ken Brown making me laugh during the broadcast when he said that Oiler defenceman Jim Neilson's slapshot "couldn't break the scum on a rice pudding"- a phrase I've never heard before or since.

I noticed that too... I'd be more inclined to belive that its just not listed because its different than their regular schedule. It will probably change when its closer to the game... i hope.

Then I look onto the schedule and at least its there as "NHL GAME"

Also amazed how bad its possible for a television station to become.

They could probably point a camera directly outside their studio on Jasper Ave from morning to night and have more riveting programming.

"cougar town"?!

jebus, lets hope "judge judy" doesn't get held over into extra time..
Hey dude don't knock cougar town... Show is funny as hell and probably more entertaining than 80% of oilers games this year. I don't think I get the game in winnipeg. Maybe its for the best right now, though I'm sure the guys will get a boost from the return of stone.

I actually find that City has more of the shows I like during prime time and CTV has the crap. But TV is very subjective.

I think I'd have to be 12 yrs old to enjoy that show and even then I doubt it.

Kind of a poster show for postmodern societal decay. Socially unredeeming and vacant.

Actually...Rogers bought the CityTV stations across the country, previously owned by CHUM.

CTV used to own Sprotsnet but then Rogers bought out Sportsnet years ago. CTV and Rogers are seperate companies.

However, CTV does own CFRN.

I enjoy the show as well. Not only for a few laughs every now and then but more importantly for the outfits they have on, or lackthereof!

Rod's not even on this road trip so you don't get him either way.

The last I heard he was on the same Flight to Phoenix as Dan Tencer, according to Tencer's twitter the other day.

Maybe Rod's on holidays or attending some personal matters? Or maybe they're just giving Stauffer some practice.

Doesn't anyone remember when Oilers games were on City TV all the time? When the station first debuted, as "A Channel", they owned the rights to regional Oilers telecasts for a couple years. I thought it was a pretty effective way to win some marketshare. Plus they used to air a lot of Simpsons.

Not quite.

First A-Channel was owned by Craig Media but was purchased by CHUM. CHUM rebranded it to Citytv while changing old NewNet channels in Ontario and Vancouver to A-Channel. Then CTVGlobeMedia purchased CHUM and were told they'd have to sell the Citytv system which is when Rogers came in and picked them up. For a brief time any show that CTV had the rights to would be shown on Citytv if they were broadcasting another show in that timeslot due to simsub rules. Now A (and Access) are the secondary stations that show the other stuff like Gossip Girl, Fringe and otherrs.

A similar thing happened back when CTV purchased Netstar (owner of TSN) and were forced to sell either Sportsnet or TSN. They obviously chose the more profitable channel and sold Sportsnet to Roger.
