Why did the Pens trade this guy again?

I always liked Christensen when he played for the Pens. A few extra faceoff wins will be a welcome addition to this lineup.

As far as the "situation" in goal, Lundqvist is still our resounding number one and he has a sub par backup. Honestly I'm excited to see what Johnson has, he still has career upside. (Vally is probably as good as he'll ever be)

I'm pissed off. For the last few seasons Vally has been a good back-up for us. We play a new, ludicrous all out attack system and surprise surprise our goalies struggle. It's not like he's even had lots of terrible games, just two or three.

As for Christensen, I'm interested to see what he brings. Could be a nice pick-up.

Which means they don't have a back-up for tonight because Toskala and James Reimer (the other goaltender in the org. with an NHL contract) are both hurt along with Gustavsson.

Im sure they'll put the least injured goaltender on the bench, just in case.

Does anyone know when the deadline is for teams to put in a claim on Valiquette? I really don't see him clearing waivers but the Rangers need a change right now, and with Zaba and Wiikman in Hartford they could probably spare a goaltender at this point. Plus whatever cap space they may get by losing Valiquette would be offset by Christensen.

I would think he gets claimed on re-entry if they tried it.

What's the rule on getting traded while in the minors? Does he have to pass to get to his new team?

Everyone was waiting for McKenzie to post the waiver stuff today on twitter

McKenzie reports it

Eklund chimes in with E5 30 seconds later

Gross and Cerny post it on their twitter 1 minute after McKenzie

Not even a re-tweet

which means he is able to play in Hartford without counting against the cap? And when the Rangers want to call him back up, he has to go via re-entry waivers?

They won't bring him back up, IMHO, unless they want to lose him and pay 1/2 his salary to another team (not happening).

Sorry. Christensen was a Pen, so I figured you were talking about him in this thread.

Yeah they are sort of screwed now if Johnson goes down in practice or something and someone claims Valley the Rangers have Wiikman and Lundqvist...

For the most part, yes. Now that he has cleared waivers, the Rangers have 10 NHL games or 30 days to send him to Hartford. Until they send him down, he counts against the cap. He must be sent down and then called back up (barring an emergency callup) to be subject to re-entry waivers. If he is not sent down and 10 NHL games or 30 days pass, then he must clear waivers again in order to be sent down.

I don't think there's any doubt that he will be sent down, but there have been cases where players have been placed on waivers and not sent down.
