Very nice. But how did they do this deal now if they didnt make any other moves to avoid the tagging rule? I mean they had these deals ready a few weeks ago but couldnt do it according to the tag rule right? How did they gain cap space?

Great news for Chicago fans, no matter what the price. That team will be a contender for at least 5 years. It probably also assures that one of Toews or Kane will be leaving when they hit UFA but that's a long, long way away.

I'm going to guess:
Kane and Toews signed the exact same deal @ $5.4m
Keith signed @ $4.8m

Just posted in the speculative thread about this and now I see it's official. The link points to a blog but I'll assume it's true.

Good for the Blackhawks. Everyone likes to make fun of them for being in cap hell but I'm a hockey fan and I like it when every team has their own homegrown stars to enjoy for a long time.

Chicago should be a powerhouse for years to come.

As I said in the old thread:

Kane and Toews: 5 years $6.25 to $6.75 million per year

Numbers appear to be $6.3M for Kane and Toews and $5.5M for Keith. $18.1M+ on the cap.

So, with 10 forwards, 5 defenceman and a goalie signed, theyre $4.6M over the cap.

Didn't need cap space, needed tagging room. A minor, temporary roster rotation would take care of that.

As of now they have 13 players signed next year and they are at 42 million next year.(without these three) They are going to need to trade someone of high importance.

Barker will not make it past the deadline, imo, and Campbell will be the big piece dealt in the off season.

It is a great time to be a Blackhawk fan.

I wish I could sign Duncan Keith for 13 years. He's one of our countries best defenseman. Love the guy.

Can't really disagree though.

Congrats to all the true Blackhawks fans who were here before Toews and Kane.

I mean look at what the Sens did with three star players, cup finals.
