I'll admit I didn't like the signing at first but I am glad that Nichol has proven me wrong.

I was doubtful at the start of the season, but now if we don't sign him to a multi-year contract I will be pissed.

If I get a second jersey, it will be a Nichol jersey.

Wait, what? They're both 4th line centers who excel on faceoffs, but the similarities end there. Nichol is so much better than Goc it's not funny.

Isn't Nichol one of your best player on PK?

He's better at the stuff a bottom 6 player should be better at, but I still contend that Goc was miscast as a bottom 6 player. I don't even really think he was the problem with the bottom 6. Plihal, Lemieux, and a fading Roenick were all much less effective than him.

Not really, Marleau and Pavs are the 1st PK unit and are amazing PK'ers. Nichol is quite decent though and is especially good for winning faceoffs and burning 20 seconds off the clock.

how was goc miscast as a bottom 6 player? as was mentioned earlier, he's not good enough for top 6 duty, so if he's miscast on the 3rd or 4th lines, by my calculation, he shouldn't be in the league. the problem with the lower lines last year was that they were mainly comprised of guys that were too old to provide anything other than grizzled wisdom (lemieux, roenick), too one-dimensional (at varying degrees) to provide even the potential of offense (goc, plihal, shelley, grier), and too meh (staubitz, cheechoo). goc very much had something to do with what was wrong with those lines.

So the Preds have also miscast Goc as a third line player who is on pace for 10 points this year? You think someone like that will get to a second line role?

Nichol does so much more and Goc is proving out with another team that he is a fringe NHL player with a couple good skills.

Nichol is a faceoff weapon. Todd uses him to win a faceoff and immediately gets him off the ice. Not sure Sharks have ever had this type of reliable faceoff man ever.

And when teammates see this 5'10 lightweight flying around hitting bigger guys, how can you not be inspired?

From LS links in the game thread, the lastest WTC entry
Quote:
****Scott Nichol, it turns out, had a rude awakening between the second and third periods of Tuesday night’s victory over Ottawa.

“Had to get my skate sharpened,” he said this morning. “I took my skate off and the whole sock was bloody.”

Though he hadn’t realized it, Nichol had suffered a deep cut on the top of his foot that required stitches before he could return to the game. He held up his skate this morning and it was easy to see where the lower part of its tongue had maybe a two-inch-long slice. Nichol said he must’ve been cut by another blade — maybe his own — at some point during the second period.

Nichol's a mad man

More from Nichol at WTC (and Kipper's 'save of the century'...)

Quote:
Nichol talked about that save in the print edition story today, but he also talked about the Sharks so-so record at home over the past few games. "Like it or not, we’re a measuring stick for everybody,” he said. “Anybody comes into this rink, they’ve got their A game. They don’t wait to see how we’re going to play. They come out gangbusters. We’ve just got to start burying more pucks and making this a nastier place to play."

what I meant by 2.0 is that he's an Upgraded version of Goc

You must be too much into windows where a 2.0 of something means divide by 2

Goc just wins faceoffs, not much than that.
But Scott Nichol does all the little things that Goc doesn't do PLUS wins more faceoffs than Goc.

Huge upgrade.
