Hawks have a deeper line up. Only conceivable hole in goal which can easily enough be filled later this year if they want.

I don't see where i was touchy. I understand that Versteeg is younger but i've seen Hawk games and Sharp has a pretty big impact on a regular basis and has two attributes that the Oilers desperately need Size and a Great Shot Sorry if i came off touchy, i just have a bit of a man crush on Sharp and think he would give great balance to the Oilers forwards and Versteeg would be just another redundant forward on this roster.

Its an odd thing watching the Hawks as the eyes think they are seeing a team that plays it loose and with some firewagon hockey but they've really surprised me how they get the puck out.

This is easily the best puck transition team in the world. Nobody comes close to them setting up their rushes and breakouts. I've made the "showtime" comment several times now. A thing of beauty.

Puck support, systems, everybody on the same page. I had to watch the Hawks for awhile before I stopped thinking they were just getting breaks. You remember some of my thoughts last year.

I never said the Hawks are weak defensively, I just don't think Huet can carry a team on his back to a cup. I also agree that they have arguably the best D-core in the league. (I also like Philly's, but that's cause they have that gap toothed fella). Another thing is they don't really have that player that can be held up with Crosby/Lidstrom. Toews could be that guy, but he's still too young for me to make a judgement call.

Well, you're right, Toews isn't Crosby but Keith is a favourite to win the Norris this season.

He's a beast defensively and almost a PPG.

Am I the only one that isn't a huge fan of these moves? The timing is pretty bad imo. Don't you move out a few contracts before signing players to long term contracts? That puts Chicago in a terrible position for moving Huet and Campbell to make room for these signings. Regardless of if you like the length/dollar amount why now? Terrible timing.

I don't believe there is a single team in the league right now that will be able to build a dynasty. Most likely, there will be a number of teams winning in the next 5 years.

Is there that much difference between Pitts and WAS or Boston or Phily this year?
An injury to Crosby or Malkin and they can be picked by almost any play-off team. See their 5 game losing streak earlier this season.

Same in the West. SJ, Chicago, Detroit are more or less on the same level and likely will be for a few more years with a few other teams knocking on the door (LA, STL, Columbus, Phoenex will all get better).

I find those deals exceptionally fair. I'd like to see a poll of 'Who got the best of it, players vs franchise'. As much as I don't love a powerhouse being built in the conference, it's nice to see a good young team not torn apart by salary cap/free agency.

Good day for hockey imo.

Nah, the dollar amount is very good. Also, Campbell won't be tough to move. His salary aside, he's still one of the league's better puck-movers and I am sure somebody will take a flyer on him.

Ok Annie, whatever you say...just please put the knife down, alright?

Just kidding, of course...really . My point remains though, as I'd still rather see Versteeg. If they trade for a player like Sharp, it means another walk down the same tentative, lukewarm path of recent years, which has only served to keep us just mediocre enough to stay in the 10 - 15 draft range.

Did you see his shootout attempt last night?

When he got back to the bench the ribbing about "you don't dump it in on the shootout" began..

Stupidest thing I've seen in awhile.

Not to say anything about the player though.

Oilers waive Sopel.

No tagging problems for Chicago.

i think they will get past the tagging issue quite easily, but I am interested to see how they put together the same quality roster next year with the amount of RFAs they have to re-sign. Not saying they won't be able to do it...just saying it will be interesting to watch. Key players (although not core players) up for contract are Ladd, Eager, Hjalmarsson and Niemi, all of which will be due at least minimal raises, Hjalmarsson most likely the largest.

We downgrade our goaltender, pick up an overrated defenseman and give up Cogs and Grebs. All this for Aliu?

This is Chicago's year to win it, because after those new contracts kick in next year - their depth will be depleted.

I don't get why people are so high on Cam Barker. He would probably be a slight upgrade over Gilbert. Other than that all I can remember is his own goal against teh Oilers and that is the type of player I see game in and game out when I see a hawks game.
