Hemsky cap space

We can take on a large contract for the remainder of the season since Hemsky is out.

It would be a mistake not to take advantage of the cap space; we should be a relief valve for a contender.

Send a contending team a good player in return for a crap player with a huge salary who is UFA status next season and pick up another first rounder in the deal.

Lots of ways to play with this cap space. I want to hear your ideas.

I understand the logic of this, unfortunately, no one's in as bad of a cap situation this year as Edmonton except maybe the Rangers. Here's the list right now.

http://www.capgeek.com/tracker/

To make it a worthwhile exercise I narrowed the list only to guys coming UFA making more than 2 million and teams within 2 million of the cap. We then get.

New York Rangers - Higgins (2.25)
San Jose Sharks - Nabokov (5.375), Marleau (6.3), Blake (4.0)
Toronto Maple Leafs - Van Ryn (2.9), Toskala (4.0), Stempniak (2.5), Ponikarovsky (2.1)
Pittsburgh Penguins - Guerin (2.0), Gonchar (5.0), Eaton (2.0)
Ottawa Senators - Volchenkov (2.5)
Boston Bruins - Morris (3.3)
Chicago Blackhawks - Madden (2.75)
Detroit Red Wings - Lidstrom (7.45), Holmstrom (2.25)
Washington Capitals - Theodore (4.5), Pothier (2.5)
Calgary Flames - Jokinen (5.25)
Vancouver Canucks - Schneider (2.75), Mitchell (3.5), Demitra (4.0)
Buffalo Sabres - Tallinder (2.56), Lydman (2.875)

I don't see a lot of opportunity here. Maybe Toskala or Theodore but Toronto is not giving away any more draft picks and Theodore is a good insurance policy for Washington. There aren't many monstrosities out there that teams would be desparate to get rid of and give anything of value to get rid of them.

How about Boston wanting to move Morris and their own 1st rounder seeing as how they already have TO's?
