NYR Enforcers?

I have to say I miss Orr and dare I say Hollweg...now before you all jump and beat me for saying Hollweg...He brought soooo much energy, maybe a little too much sometimes, but definitely something that could have been fixed under Torts (I think), I was kind of sad to see him go....But that fire and energy is what is really missing this year, him and/or orr. I know tort's says the brash brings more, but I have not seen it at all, our enforcers in the past had speed and even when being down gave the rest of the team a jump if lagging, and our enforcers this year are not doing it.

Anyone think I am way off base here?

I just started thinking about this and I know a lot of people feel the way I do and it has been talked about how we all would rather have Orr than Brash, but we never mention hollweg, he brought a TON of energy every game and I feel that is missing, and is there anyone out there really that would bring that energy to this team if a trade was made? I just am not sure... But wanted to open up some dialogue about this here and get people's opinion...don't get pissed for what i'm saying, if you think our enforcers are good enough then say who they are and why, don't just say "you are on something." haha and if you agree with me say who you would like on the team...

Hollweg is never mentioned because he was a liability and a dumb player. This guy took so many boarding penalties that he ended up getting too many game misconducts in such a short period of time that the league had to suspend him. He was a reckless player who never learned his lesson that boarding is harmful and could end a player's career.

Hollweg was a major factor in why the Rangers went down 3-0 to the Pens in the 2008 playoffs. He took a costly boarding penalty and the Penguins scored on the ensuing power play, which was the turning point of the game. I almost feel bad for the guy because it seems like he really has no control over his actions.

Hollweg is a guy on your team you love and then does something stupid and fans turn on him. He was good in small doses but wore out his welcome. The NHL and stricter rules forced Him out. But there is always a place for energy guys

Rangers NEED some secondary toughness. Or in other words, some secondary intimidation. They dont have anyone other than Brash and, just like most enforcers, he is easy to ignore.

I agree with everything said so far about hollweg, but i still feel the right coach could have helped him change stop the boardings he was doing...i do remember his stupid hits though...is there anyone like that in this league without the stupid hits from behind??? Maybe Chris Neil, but I can't think of anyone else

Clutterbuck, Raymond, Lapierre, Lucic just off the top of my head.

Lucic can be a pretty dirty player.

Lucic for sure is borderline dirty. Most guys that play with a edge have a little bit of dirtiness to them. The Rangers need a Rutuu or Prust type 3rd liners and quick

Yeah, but that is what makes him so unique. He is intimidating to play against.

Right, but wasn't the question about guys who don't commit ridiculous hits?

I thought it was about someone who would bring energy and be an effective player. If Hollweg had put up 40 points a season his hits would have been tolerated because he played with an "edge". However, because he was a 4th liner and that was all he was seen doing it was overblown. Other players bring that "edge" while being able to still play the game at the NHL level.

I focused on the part that said, "is there anyone like that in this league without the stupid hits from behind???"

Still, I'd take Lucic any day.

In a few years we'll hopefully have guys like Byers, Soryal and DiDiomete filling out our bottom six for the foreseeable future. They all bring grit, toughness and energy with a touch of skill to boot.

I really liked Hollweg. Yea okay, he did some stupid stuff, but he bleed Ranger blue. ALWAYS stuck up for his teammates and would drop em with anybody. ANd his skating was damn good. He just had hands of stone. I miss him and Orr.

PS: I would seriously overpay to get Colby Armstrong here. I also have a mancrush on Kevin Westgarth, would love to get him too.

Brashear is here to collect a paycheck and enjoy Broadway. The Capitals wouldn't resign him for the money and length of contract that he wanted. He chose money over team and a good shot at the Stanley Cup. His complacency shows in his play. He does as little as possible to get by. I am not a fan. I wish that we would have kept Orr. In fact, I would rather not even have an enforcer than have Brashear taking up almost 3 million and a roster spot while doing so little. He is even given more opportunities by Torts then previous coaches. What other coach would've put him on the PP or put him on the 3rd line? I mean, do you want to lose??
I would take any of the afore mentioned or no enforcer over having Brashear. Who is laughing all of the way to the bank about the money that he stole from the Rangers, "Ah, ha, ha, ha. And they thought I was an enforcer."

HFNYR has finally lost it's mind if we're reminiscing about RYAN HOLLWEG.

I'd rather be a soft team than have an idiot like that here.

Why don't you post the other fights Byers has in? This guy sucks worse than Hollweg and Voros both at fights. He doesn't have a place on the roster right now.

Ryan Hollweg was a really good skater/forechecker...it's a shame he never learned when to hold up with hits. Loved the intensity he brought.

I think lately having enforcers or a "lack" of them is not a problem at all. Avery's been stepping up to the plate as being our middleweight again, not sure where that was so far...Voros looks like he's taken a lesson or two from Brashear on fighting, and Brashear himself has been doing what I think is a great job of getting in guys faces. It was there in both the Tampa and Pittsburgh games, where you'd hope it be definitely present....

I think it's funny how bad nitpicking gets when we lose as bad as we did the past two games. The past two threads I've posted in have been about missing a 4th line center and how we need more enforcers. Forget the fact that our blueline is just horrible in its own end, and that our forwards don't backcheck nearly as hard enough as they should be, or that our Goaltending has been questionable. Let's talk about how we need to add a few more thugs to our team and bring back a 4th line center!

I was just going to post this exact same thing. I really wished we were able to get him here over the offseason, but it didn't work out.
