I went with play their positions. That to me has been the biggest problem all year. I don't even care if we win, but at this point I'd actually like to see guys give an effort to what their jobs are.

If everyone does their job it should make the rest of your list happen, except the tanking.

And Horcoff in as well, I think he missed yesterday's practice and was questionable.

Thank baby Jesus that David Staples at least has the cojones to say things like this:

This year -- which has gone so wrong for the Oilers due to injury, illness and poor planning -- has a chance to go right if the Oilers hockey bosses don't engage in wishful thinking. They need to start preparing for coming seasons right now, and if they're not willing to do it, they should step aside.

At least someone in the Edmonton media isnt until under the thumb of the team's management.

I've taken this past week to come to terms with our current situation. I think that I'm prepared and ready to start rooting for some losses. Is it wrong though that I still want to see an occasional win?

The occassional win is fine as long as we are losing more often than the other 29 teams.

Lowe (and maybe Tambo) need complete and utter suckage thrust upon them - its the only way that they might give up the delusion that this team is built to win and win now.

Agreed. It must also boil down to a pride factor for the Oilers brass though too right? And the players. These are still professional athletes. It will be really hard for them I would think/hope to fall into the losing frame of mind and game play. Well.... they have been losing just fine so far, but was that intentional?

I guess you missed Tychkowski's article from just under a week ago

Boo Heatley?

Take a look around ... it's pretty hard to argue with his decision.

And don't take it personally. It's not Edmonton.

It's the Oilers.

The city has taken a lot of unnecessary lumps lately when in reality it's the team, not the town, that is so very unappealing right now.

Edmonton is a great city in which to be a winner. But this is a bad club and it's been a bad club for going on four years. They were 25th overall in 2006-07, 19th overall in 2007-08 and 21st overall in 2008-09.

So why are we surprised that they're 25th right now? Or that high-end talent doesn't want to sign here?

Daryl Katz can go chase all the quick-fix, pie-in-the-sky names he wants -- Heatley, Hossa, Jagr -- but until they fix the fundamental mess, nobody's coming.

If you're looking to boo somebody, boo the guys who created this environment in the first place.
Does that read like it comes from someone that is under anybody's thumb?

Brownlee, Barnes, Jones, even crusty ol' John Short have written critical articles on the Oilers management in the past. The thing is, you can't do it all the time or you run the risk of losing that revered team access.

Just get Cloned to make all the GDT's and we should be golden.

Well its not like people are fighting to claim the losing GDT credits. I think it should fall to our moderators.

Missed that one.

I just hope that this is the year management decides a new on ice direction is needed. We have to face the reality that Lowe isnt going anywhere and Tambo will likely be given another year at least. So hopefully the two of them can at least agree that a rebuild is necessary.

Unfortunately, I dont think it will go down like that. If we end up with a top 3 pick this year, and particularly if we get Hall or Seguin, management will look at the impact guys like Tavares, Stamkos, Kane, Toews, etc. have had on their teams, and will convince themselves yet again that the supporting cast is just fine. Now we have a prospect that could be a legit star - if we add him to the mix, thats all we need.

I tell you this Tambo and company have a whole year to make decisions on this team. They have quite a few assets that they can trade to make this team better. There is no reason that next year we can't make the playoffs. That is unless they sit with their thumbs up their bums and do nothing but draft in the top 5.

I don't care anymore about getting a Heatley or Hossa, I never really did to tell you the truth. But there is no reason that we can't start plugging all the small holes that we have. Lets build a team where we are only a superstar away from being a stanley cup contender, not an 8th seed contender.

I read his blog with more than a little bemusement.

Why is it that the "hockey experts" have come to the same realization that more common folks figured out mere days after Ryan Smyth was traded?

We'd be in a much better place now if Lowbellini hadn't spent the last three seasons whale hunting.
