I don't really like +/-, but in this case I think it is indicative of the play of our dmen. What a season these 2 have been having.

I would like to see how Smid does with a different partner though, as Visnovsky has a habit of making his partner look better than he is.
Good call. Vis is so underrated and Smid has taken some big steps forward. my biggest disapointment of all this year is Grebs and Gilbert, man, if they show up finally, this team will take off.

Was going to mention that. He competed very strongly for both the puck and position, and was aggressive when he needed to be. He needs to keep this up.

I'm sorry but why is that an excuse for other teams but not the Oilers, the Red Wings three best players all played tonight.

Nonsense, he's still one of the best defensemen in the game

Because the Wings injured players would all be on the top two lines of thr Oilers?

Yes they have three players that are better than any Oiler but they have another 5 that are also better than their Oiler equivalent.

For example: Raflski/Grebeshkov.

Duh

It's simple: There are two main points that can be concluded about this game.

1. Oilers played very good, capitalized on their chances.
2. Redwings didn't have their greatest game. For arguments sake, let's even say they played horrible.

So which point should be the focus? Especially if you're a fan of the Oilers, what would be the logical point to champion.

It's a very simple excercise that will make you see people for what they are, and why some don't deserve the time of day, for they serve not much more of a purpose than to bring pointless 'noise' to this board.

Right now I would put visnovsky as a better defenceman then Lidstrom.

Which of their injured players are better than any Oiler? Franzen's a good goal scorer and Rafalski is not the same player that he used to be, just ask Red Wing fans. The Oilers haven't been healthy since early October so we will not know all year how they would have played if healthy but you just kept preaching that the Oilers would definitely suck even if they were healthy and that injuries are just excuses. Also, why does it have to be that the Red Wings were dreadful tonight only (which they were) but there's no mention from you about the Oilers playing a near perfect road game?

He needs to accept his ability to be a stalwart defensive player. He tends to approach the defensive game as if its a detriment to the energy he wants to have in order to be make scoring plays.

He gets in trouble when he tries to go half-a$$ed into defending. When he goes in aggresive & confident...he gets buisiness taken care of & then (lo-and-behold) offence can happen for him.

The guy just drips skill. Its a classic case of DESIRE (or lack there-of) which determines how he performs defensively.

Is there anyone actually trying to argue that the Oilers weren't the best team on the ice tonight?

The more 'interesting' posts are those that make excuses for why this was the case. Red Wings have injuries? How about the Oilers number one goalie and some guy named Hemsky. But why even attempt to make excuses for Detroit? Well, I know why certain people do.

I know you're smarter than this because you offer up some good insightful analysis from time to time but sometimes you say really dumb things and i wonder why i feed into it but here i go again..... Where anywhere did i insinuate that the Oilers were better than the Wings? It's just amazing how you'll use the injury excuse for every other team but when it comes to the Oilers, it's eh they would miss the playoffs even if they were healthy, and we can't use the injury and flu excuse as part of the reason for their failures thus far this year..... I know you'll probably respond with some nonsensical, unfunny one liner which will just further prove that you having nothing else to further your point so have at it.

Been saying it for years. Ryan Smyth got pretty frustrated with Hemmer as well a few years back.

Of course at that time collective *wisdom* was Smytty should keep his yap shut because Hemsky was CLUTCH bread n butter.

Remember that nonsense?

Hemsky was always way overrated here. Like I said pregame I actually prefer Brule on the topline with Gags and Penner. They play more on the same page. Hemsky is allergic to playing in traffic.
