Claude Lemieux thinks Cammalleri should wear the C (Official Captain Thread)

He was asked on RDS who should wear the C, he said Cammalleri. He mentioned Cammalleri was the only player who came into the dressing room to shake the legends hands while they were getting dressed. He also mentioned that Cammalleri "gets it" and that he came here despite the pressure he knew he would have to produce.

Not to take anything away from Cammer, but sounds like the other players were either real dicks or stupid not to go shake hands with the legends. I would have killed to say hi or talk with those vets.

or maybe they didn't know they could, didn't want to bother them, etc. Who knows really.

I still think that Markov should be it *if* he wanted it. He's the most important player bar none. It was great to see him with Mr. Lach's banner tonight.

Cammalleri really got noticed by the legends with his show of respect. He looks like a guy who wants to be part of the habs, someone who has respect for the tradition and the meaning behind it all. I'm sure Gainey and Martin noticed those things and it will stay in their mind when it's time to name a captain.

EDIT: I would also like to add that I didn't think players who had respect for the tradition of the habs still existed. I really hope he's one of those guys.

I'd like to see Markov with the C but I just don't see him as the type of guy to be captain of the habs. His english is just not good enough for the job even if it has improved lately. The captain is one of the guys who is empowered with talking to the refs, but he also must answer the medias. He's also very reserved. There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't think he'd make a good captain despite him being an amazing player that has shown loyalty to the team by re-signing here.

Cammy would be a great choice.
We haven't had such a natural scorer in a long time.

Cammalleri also seems to have a flair for the clutch.

Tonights game could be a season turner, and he, along with Price, practically willed us to victory....

He seems like a guy that turns to be a player we look back once he retires and we say 'He was a true Hab'.

Great class and seems to be a good team player. Our first legitimate elite goal-scorer for quite a while.

Good captain candidate.

I was on the Gio bandwagon until about 10-15 games on the season. The more I hear about and from Cammy, the more I jump on his wagon and I definitely hope he gets the C. Markov and Gio with the A's but Cammy is my captain and I'm looking forward to him earning the letter!

I know it's a dumb question but how many goals did Cammelleri score to get his hat trick?

exactly the point I was making in the "pride" discussion following the leafs loss. They DO exist, and he's one of them. I think Price is as well. For that matter I think there are a few more on our team, like Gorges and OB. Even Pleks understands that it's important. I think everyone on the team had a fun night tonight and winning allowed them to realize what it feels like to be a part of that tradition.

I think all the greats really appreciated Cammalleri stepping up to come and see them. I'd be really happy if he became captain in the upcoming weeks

If Cammy keeps playing this way he'll be a future legend himself. Give him the C! He's the best player Montreal has had in over a decade. And yes he's better than Kovy.

I, like a few others, was on the Gionta bandwagon earlier in the season.

I've been on the Cammalleri bandwagon for about 10 games now, and tonight's game shows exactly why I am. He should be our captain IMO. He's the perfect guy for it (if Markov doesn't want it -- and he's let it be known he doesn't want it).

Cammalleri - C
Gionta - A
Markov - A

Listening to his post game interview on Habs Inside/Out, the guy is just such an interesting interview. He seems like such a great guy. Not just tonight but all of his interviews, you can tell he genuinely cares and LOVES being part of this franchise.

My exact words after the Cammy hat trick. He really does. I don't know if any other player is currently in tune with the club's history and sense of pride. He seems to revel in it. I think the C will bring out the best of him just like it did for Kovalev. These type of players were just born to be in that position, to thrive in the spotlight.

Gionta was my first choice and would bring it game in, game out regardless of the letter on his jersey. I think the C will take Cammy to a new level.

He's so natural... He was born to be a Hab.

That's why I thought he'd be captain when the season started.

this shouldn't be news to anyone who has been watching Cammalleri through this new phase of his career. There's a Gionta for Captain following but MC will get it for obvious reasons.
