World Cup Draw!

Anyone else watching the World Cup Draw live on ESPN? I'm watching it in the library on silent and the suspense is killing me! Ideal draw for the US...South Africa, Algeria, and Switzerland. A man can dream...

Too bad it won't happen...Mexico just got the spot in Group A with South Africa. That means USA his gonna have to face one of the traditional "Big Boppers" if you will.

The US and England are in the same group. Nice.

DFF, you wanted Algeria; you got Algeria.

Nice, throw Algeria into the mix. They are probably the weakest team besides South Africa.

I'm liking this group. Algeria and Slovenia we should be able to handle. England, that's another story. Should make it to the elimination stage, though, I think.

England, USA, Algeria and Slovenia; not bad for the US.

Italy got a favourable draw.

We played and beat you with a primarily reserve side a few years back. It's the opening game so we could be sluggish but i back us to get 9 points out of this group.

US to qualify fairly easily too. Slovenia and Algeria are no great shakes. Shame you'll end up playing Germany.

North Korea is going to get murdered.
They will be lucky to score 1 goal
I like the USA draw. England will be a problem but they should have no problem handling Slovenia and Algeria.
If they dont get out of this group with England then relegate their ass to the MSL

Germany doesn't have an easy ride in their group. Maybe they finish 2nd and play England in Round 2.

No, they don't.

I also wouldn't underestimate Slovenia, they beat Russia in WCQ playoffs and Russia just made the semis of Euro08 and has some pretty damn talented players, I'd rank a couple of theirs above anyone the US has.

Group G will be great, but I'm really looking forward to Group D where any 2 of the 4 could advance.

Friendly results are meaningless and in this past 2 years the USA has grown a lot since then. There are only 6 players from that US 11 that will be in South Africa. There was no Donovan, Altidore, Spector. And depending on how things shake out Jermaine Jones, Maurice Edu, Charlie Davies could all be in South Africa.

USA matches up against England a lot better than a Spain, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, etc. They have a shot depending on the health of Gooch and Davies shakes out. You put Jones into that midfield and they definitely have a chance to upset england.

I mean the US has a better chance playing England than the US does playing one of those teams.

Yeah, but that's like saying Monaco has a much better chance against China than against the United States in a war, either way, Monaco's ass is getting kicked.

Yeah...yes, people need to start realizing that nobody takes the Confed Cup seriously (surprise!) and that the USA's performance there means nothing.

Pick your poison. Everyone was talking up South Africa...that's great in the "on paper" discussion, but its ignoring host nation's track record, and the fact that home field means a ton in international soccer.

England is known for choking...European teams also have not traveled well outside of Europe in international play. Will we be favored? No. Do we have a shot in the grand scheme of things? Absolutely.

If we can't beat Slovenia and Algeria, then it was all moot anyway. Can't complain about that group, IMO. If we don't get to the elimination round, it isn't because the draw screwed us over.
