He admits he came here because there would be less pressure on him.
You know, now you're starting to sound like what we accuse Maple Leafs fans of being: navel gazers. The little story I retold points out that in Cammy's mind there would be more pressure in Toronto than in Montreal.
What Habs' fans thought didn't enter into Cammy's equation.
There is more to it then just that.. He didn't like the roster he would have had to play with in Toronto either. Keep in mind this is before Kessel, and even then it's not like Kessel is the type of player that would compliment Cammalleri well. Gomez, Gionta and Plekanec are all players that support Cammalleri very well in their style of play.
I don't doubt for a native Torotonian there would be less pressure in his mind to play in Montreal, but c'mon... He just stepped into the most hockey crazed market in the world. The pressure was going to be intense. He could have went anywhere he wanted. Don't think some team in the US would have offered him a good deal? I bet he had some. Pressure was not the only factor.
I like Cammy but Claude is talking nonsense. Cammy had an offer from Burke to sign with T.O. He was tempted but finally decided to go with Montreal's offer because he lives in T.O. during the summer and didn't want the hassles of playing and living in the same city. That was reported Freedman.
WOW ! The same reason why the Quebec born players don't want to play for the Habs !!!
Markov is our best player
He goes down we're happy to go .500
Cammy goes down, can we say the same?
Cammalleri has scored 21% of the team's goals so far. You're kidding yourself if you think losing him wouldn't affect the team all that much. He's one of our only two or three truly dangerous forwards. Losing Markov might hurt our defense and our offense, but Cammalleri is our only truly good goal scorer (Gionta was doing really well in that aspect until his injury though, but it's safe to say he would have slowed down).
Besides, you don't have to be the best player to be captain. I don't care who is captain anyway, leaders are leaders whether they have a letter on their jersey or not.
If Markov wanted to be captain he'd be the captain. This is between Gionta and Cammy IMO. Both
I think there is probably some truth to the media 'report' earlier this season about him being offered the captaincy and turning it down. You can't blame him, he's a quiet guy who likes to fly under the radar.
Where did all the Gionta supporters go? I agree that after watching Cammy play recently he would definitly deserve the ''C'' but just because Gionta is injured people are ready to move on and forget about him.
Anyway, I still believe Gionta should be the captain.
I was on the Gionta bandwagon. I converted to Cammallerism a few days ago. I think he is exactly the right man to be the Captain of the Canadiens. Besides his scoring touch.. he is the right PERSON.. for it.. before being the right player for it.
If we lacks size and skills, one thing we certainly don't lack is character and pride. I mean it's a great thing we can discuss between many candidates to settle our Captain. Between Gorges, Cammalleri, Gionta, Gomez, Markov, Moen... I think our leadership is good enough.
I'd give it to Cammalleri because he has been very consistant for the past 3 seasons and constancy is a great assest for captaincy.
I like Gionta, and he reminds me of Koivu in a great way, but it's putting a lot of pressure on a sometimes steaky guy...
