A Lesson in Class & Respect

You guys see the nice ovation the B's fans gave for the Canadian National Anthem as they cheered throughout the singing of it?

I'm not trying to downplay the respect most Boston fans had for our anthem, but I thought I heard some light boos at the start, and then the rest of them drowned that out by cheering loudly.

And I'm not trying to justify the Montreal fans booing the US anthem, but being in Quebec, and given how the American Government has treated the French over the last few years, was anybody really surprised?

Explain to me how the American Government has treated the French over the last few years...

And great way of justifying the act of the Canadian crowd that booed the anthem!

What part of I'm NOT trying to justify the Montreal fans booing the anthem, don't you understand?

And it is simple. After France refused to take part in the Iraq war, the French were labelled as cowards by the American Government. Freedom Fries? Give me a break!

That being said, booing the anthem was still wrong. I just wasn't surprised.

I heard it very clearly at first. The crowd then cheered very loudly and we didn't hear the boo-birds after that.

I saw 2 habs fans with an American Flag ... Now let's stop the ridiculous who has the more class about a stupid anthem... it's beginning to be dumb.

For one not "trying" to justify the Montreal fans, you certainly dedicated your post to doing just that.

I think a moderator already suggested the Politics board as a better place for Van's analysis and your jingoism.

The whole issue is political, is it not?

Booing a national anthem is obviously a political statement which has jack **** to do with hockey.

Why not move the entire discussion to the Political Discussion Board?

The whole national anthem before the games is rather pointless in the first place. What does freedom/patriotism/politics have to do with sports? Half the guys on the ice aren't of either nationality and if you're going to sing the anthem, might as well read the Lord's Prayer as well.

Oh please.

In Montreal, it was a minority of Habs fans that booed the American national anthem and it got a big cheer at the end. In Boston, there was a small minority of Bruins fans that booed the Canadian anthem and they were quickly drowned out by cheers. Big deal, every team has a few fans that can't control themselves.

Enough with all these ridiculous threads about "class".

Write it down, take it to the bank.

Quebec is in France? Thought it was in Canada? Or is Canada in France?
