No no no weren't you listening. He won't become Paul Coffey until he is traded to the Pens. The real Paul Coffey's name was Aki Berg until he joined the Oilers.

So now Eklund is rehashing his old rumours? He was the one that said Johnson was going to Pittsburgh over the summer.

Be fair, maybe he meant Jack Johnson would hit 100 career points with Pittsburgh. He's only 70 away. At his current historic production, that would only take him 300 games or something.

Aki Berg > Jack Johnson > Paul Coffey

I think it's funny that ************* threads are blocked yet Eklund is considered a legitimate source around these parts and mods don't close Eklund threads. There's something wrong with this picture. ************* taking hits away from Eklund isn't a good thing I guess. HF and Eklund must have some sort of agreement that allows traffic directed to Eklunds website via HF $$$

Jack Johnson to the Seattle Mariners (E5). He will hit 500 home runs and score 500 goals as a defenseman.

I think the only option we have from here on out is to rank all future Defensemen on the likelyhood of Being Paul Coffey scale.

C1-5?

Just in case this STILL hasn't hit home with some of the younger posters or anyone defending the "article" or anyone who missed the few posts pointing it out, or for anyone who isn't attempting to read the subject title and understand what it really means...

From 1987-1992 PAUL COFFEY WAS A PITTSBURGH PENGUIN.

(He was traded in 1992 to the Kings....it's as if he couldn't go too long without being near Gretzky or Lemieux....errr or Yzerman. Lucky stat padding mother****er .)

I love the title. "Pens can soon get their own version of Paul Coffey."

Pens already had their own version of Paul Coffey.

Anyway, this thread makes me laugh everytime I read it.

Yes it's not a great article, but many writers do write some bad articles. It's like making a thread on a dog taking a poop outside and the owner didn't pick it up. Wow, big news.

Let's not forget, Eklund is a member at HFBoards. Show him the respect you want to receive yourself.

And furthermore, if you don't think he's credible, quit posting his stuff here. And for the people that respond to this thread with smart-ass remarks, keep it to yourself and pass along without posting.

As for this topic, I don't think the Kings would send out JJ through the re-building stage. Although for argument's sakes, let's say he does go to Pittsburgh. Yes, he would be a huge addition to their team and make them very dangerous.

I think you're missing the point.

Paul Coffey was traded from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles in 1992.
If true, Jack Johnson would be traded from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh.

Hence, the pens getting "their own version of Paul Coffey" referring to the trade. Pittsburgh would receive a skilled offensive defensmen from Los Angeles much like the opposite happened back in 1992.

I can only imagine he's confusing JJ with Erik Johnson, who has more offensive upside...but even then, he's not "pure" offense and declaring any defenseman capable of getting 100 points "easy" is just baffling.

Just another Eklund gem to slot alongside "Smyth re-signs" and "Heatley waives his NTC for EDM".

Yes. He has a good shot and good instincts but he just started getting ice time on the power play and with the scoring lines.

Other than that, he's a fast skater who can punish people down low and seems to have pissed off the plus/minus fairy in an earlier life because I honestly don't know how it gets so bad.

That's why Eklund for me is a perfect fit for all poeple who like lopsided NHL10 player values and trades. You can't say that he's not entertaining cuz we ALWAYS post his rumors. He's likes to be talked about me thinks!

Seriously, what can be said that hasn't been said a million times. The guy should be banned from this forum but I know there are legitimate reasons he isn't. It just seems like everything that is associated with him or said by him just lacks credibility or even logic.

Seems like a nice guy but he's a fraud, plain and simple. He's the reason that good bloggers will never have respect from everyone. As legitimate journalists have said, he takes credit for anything that he gets right (which is slightly less than a random rumour generator) and brushes off anything he gets wrong as "part of the business".

The worst part about it all is when he attempts to seriously discuss a matter. That is when his complete lack of hockey knowledge, terrible grammar and spelling, and disinterest in even basic background research comes to the fore. The only thing mildly entertaining about his writing is his "aww shucks" allure. Outside of that he is just an utter embarrassment to the blogosphere, until he admits that the last five years has been an elaborate satire.
