I think this is the right decision as i'd rather Legacy here. Leighton would be a great goaltender to have on Albany to help lead these younger guys to success, but if it comes at the expense of playing time to Peters & Murphy, it's not worth it.

Is Murphy off to the ECHL? Will Leighton find his way to re-entry waivers? Guess we'll see.

If they put leighton on re-entry waivers, and he clears, then what? Then we have 3 goalies up here again? can we put him back on waivers to send back down then? what are our options here?

Michael Leighton has been placed on re-entry waivers.

Quote:
Goaltender Michael Leighton has been placed on re-entry waivers, the Hurricanes confirmed today.

Leighton was placed on waivers Monday. He cleared waivers, then was assigned Saturday to the Albany River Rats (AHL).

Leighton has a one-way contract that pays him $600,000 this season.

I'm devastated we no longer have the fainting goat... However, I'm rather happy that the Flyers now have one! I'd say a 12th seed finish in the east should be about perfect for them!

Not bad, not bad. Hopefully Ward is claimed on re-entry as well.

With Ericsson going down in Detroit I could see them taking a page out of the Canes playbook and get the band back together.

So Philly has Leighton AND Grahame now? Are all their goalies hurt, or is P-Lavvy really that clever?

But they didn't want A Ward? Hmm...

Great, from the River Rats to the Phantoms - he's gonna shut us down 8 times this season I guarantee it.

Based on his style/mechanics/history, I doubt he will keep it up long term, but gaining some confidence (something he could never do with the Canes) is key for a goalie.

Not until the moment he left, that is, then he trashed the Canes for never giving him a chance (according to Forslund)

I tried to find it online, but apparently it wasn't quoted, because I wasn't able to find it in a search of Leighton + "given a chance". Maybe there's a better search. Anyway, he said something to the effect that he was never really given a chance in Carolina. My opinion is I think you can can make reasonable and logical arguments on both sides of that statement.

EDIT: Clearly the "Madman" is a better man than I.

His comments were far from "trashing", unless you're a blind homer who thinks that this team walks on water, piddles ginger ale, and craps out bales of cotton candy.

Seriously.

Is that what you consider "trashing the team"? Said he wished he had gotten a better chance, the team realized Goaltending wasn't the issue, and said he was disappointed, liked the team and wanted to stay.

I see nothing at all wrong with that comment. Maybe a slight dig at Cam losing 9 in a row..but I read that as more he was surprised he didn't get a chance even with that.

I am by no means a Leighton fan and am glad he has moved on, but I seriously see nothing wrong with those comments.

I don't even know that I disagree with his comments. We've joked a lot about him on here, and he's struggled at times - but he always seemed to get put in a bad situation or behind a blueline that was trouble.

Leighton may have been just another star-crossed player in our organization, we may have never really gotten a full read on him. I always wondered if he got enough of a chance to build confidence and show what he could do. I'm not convinced that, had things aligned differently, he couldn't have become a quality backup that would have worked here. Were we so focused on getting Cam up to the point where we could see how he would do with 55+ games that he never really got a look in ways that would have enabled him? I don't know, but I have wondered from time to time if he wasn't better than we thought (though clearly not a #1).

He'll play in net for Philly tomorrow, right?

Lucky guy. Picked up just in time to play the outdoor game.

Nah, he'll be traded for Conklin an hour ahead of time.
