Facepalm indeed. That being said I heard they had to move two guys to free up spots for Modin and Dorsett

Haven't you guys heard?
Blunden is able to not score any points at both center AND wing!

Yup, that versatility will certainly come in handy when we're battling for draft position.

Plus he's a big body who plays a weighty game and is competitive in the hard areas.

Obviously, but...

Agree with those that question this move. D-Mac has been a solid contributor and really adds some jump to the 4th line. I like that guy and hope he makes it through.

Blunden has been a minor disappointment inasmuch as I didn't expect a whole lot but we're getting even less.

The reason we are sending dmac down and not Blunden is because we are trying to make the crunch happy. The crunch ***** non stop about lack of talent on the farm team. Unfortunely dmac suffers because of it, I hope he gets claimed because he can play in the NHL

Wasn't there also speculation that Blunden would be less likely to make it through waivers? So, if the team was trying to avoid losing either, this move might make "sense" in that context.

That said, I've seen nothing good out of Blunden and have liked DM, so it's hard to feel too good about this...

Blunden sucks I wouldnt mind if he got picked up. If he did get claimed sign fritsche for his money if we need a player that can wing and center.

Better to keep your good-for-nothing AHL nobody than your good-for-something AHL nobody.

As I understand it, the reason they sent MacKenzie down rather than Blunden is that Blunden is big 6'4" 210 to MacKenzie's 5'11" 185 and Blunden's age 22 vs. MacKenzie's 28 means Blunden is highly likely to get claimed and MacKenzie is much less likely. Surprisingly enough, not many teams are looking for small, 28 year old 4th liners.

The Jackets believe this offers the greatest chance of keeping both Blunden and MacKenzie.

What this really means is that Fragile Freddie is really going to play this weekend.

Blunden would be the more likely candidate to get claimed, mainly due to his age. It sucks to see Mac get sent down though, he was playing very well in his limited opportunities.

I don't know what to think about this. I must admit, I'm mostly angry if we lose D-Mac and Freddie comes back and goes out for the rest of the season.

IF Modin can stay healthy, he's exactly the kind of guy this locker room needs, and badly. So, hopefully it will work out.

That being said, this is the '09-'10 Jackets, and we haven't had the good fortune that last year's team had. This will probably end badly for everyone involved.

Here's hoping no other team has noticed the effort DMac brought to the table while he was up here & claims him. I'd like him to stick around.

Here's also hoping that Freddy is able to stay healthy.

I really like him and Im glad he cleared. He could come in handy down the road. If not for call-up help, then maybe we can package him and someone else for a nice trade to help us in the playoff push.

I'm coming in late in this one, but I think it's obvious why he was "waived." He's the older guy and less likely to be stolen by another team. Remember, for guys over a certain age, you can't just "send them down" so while being waived may sound like a serious insult, it's really just him going back to his day-job in Syracuse.

EDIT: That said, I agree he brings a lot more than Blunden. But then I'm not a big Blunden fan, ever since he got the nod ahead of Picard.

I think you need to be a bit more careful with the name Dmac, the first thing that popped into my head was Doug Maclean, I stabbed my computer instantly...

I've always been a fan and I think he brings more than Blunden does. I hardly ever notice Blunden on the ice, but Picard even though he hasn't turned out to be the scorer he was supposed to be (not at the NHL level, anyway) still flies around the ice levelling people. But beyond all that I just think it's a shame not to reward a guy for playing the way he has in Syracuse.
