So who here thinks that Hartnell doesnt really help much?? yes the whole team is in a slump, but it seems like all year he tries skating with the puck or even just having control of the puck and he loses it. he has no puck control abilities i mean we can find a player that offers what he offers with less retardiness for cheaper and if we traded for him we would get more in return. but now you have to wonder if you trade someone from the core does that mean we go on a losing streak because the players are heart broken. i honestly believe moving Hartnell would help the partying situation.
Trading Hartnell to Dallas for Ott or Hagman in Tor who else is out there that could fill his role cheaper and smarter??
I dont just feel this way b/c of the losing streak ive felt this way even during our winning streak.
My Trade Wish List that wont happen
Giroux Coburn Boucher
for
Ryan Sbisa Hiller
Hartnell Cote
for
Ott plus Picks/Prospects
Ryan Richards Gagne
Briere Carter JVR
Ott Powe Lappy
Nodl/Asham/Powe/Ross/Betts
Very few players can play in front of the net well anymore. It's not something that can be taught. Hartnell isn't on Knuble's level yet but he should be one day. He's a 30 goal scorer and a great part of the team. Everyone on the team is sucking right now outside of a small number of guys.

I like Hartnells game for his grit and toughness but there have been ALOT of open nets that he seems to miss, I remember 2 of them at the beginning of the season where I was thinking, jesus... a quadrapolegic blind midget from sri lanka could have netted that one...
with that said, I would be open to trading him, but not for Steve Ott... I would want somebody that could finish. Since that likely cannot be had for Hartnell, he would end up remaining a Flyer.
I thought Hartnell looked good the first game with Lavi (I didn't see tonight). Regardless whether anyone agrees with me, he's more important to this team than Jeff Carter in regards to winning championships.
He damn well better be staying around.
edit: You can also put him on anyone's wing on any line and he'll still have a job he can effectively do. Why the hell would you want to get rid of something like that?
Hartnell is not the issue IMO,. He has a role on this team and we need him for that, especially with Knubkle gone. We need at lekast one player to fill that roll...
I'd be extremely disappointed if we traded Hartnell. His skill set is unique and his personality is great to have around(for fans and the locker room). He might be my favorite flyer currently.
I don't want Hartnell to go. He and just about everyone else sucks right now but I say ride it out with the guys we have.
Give Laviolette some time. And if we eventually have to make a trade there are others who should be moved before it comes to Hartnell.
He brings a rare mix of different skills.
In the polls section of hfboards he is the leading vote getter over Malone, Penner and Clowe in a who would you rather have poll and Penner is having a career year..
He isn't playing well right now for the same reason most of the team isn't, they are trying to do too much themselves. He thrives in the corners and around the net, wreaking havoc, which is something that the Flyers can't even seem to manifest anymore.
The Flyers don't have another guy right now that can play his role, and trading him would create a huge hole. Reemer's game may develop somewhat along these lines down the road, but he is not there yet, and he should not be thrust into a situation where that kind of production is expected of him.
The team needs to start getting pucks on net, and getting rebounds, only then will both the team, and Hartnell come around. They are still trying to be way too fancy. There was a lot more effort tonight, but much of that effort was wasted by making one to many fancy pass in the offensive zone before attempting a shot. The Montreal defenders (and goaltender) were having an easy time of reading that extra pass and subsequently able to block shots much easier.
Hartnell is our only top 12 winger with any size at all, pending JVR filling out. Trading him would be a disaster. We're already too small up front as it is, if we get any smaller we won't be able to forecheck anyone.

Yeah like always falling down, taking stupid penalties, glove tossing, hair growing ect. Its a different team but Shytsburge won when they traded malone. As far as size goes, we're big on D, if only they'd step up. (coburn)
Most of the Flyers have been, even "who's name shall not be mentioned". Well most might not have been great, but everyone seemed to play better before this streak.
I've never liked Hartnell. Trade him for a bag of pucks and jockstraps for the whole team since they seem to have been played out of theirs. Maybe we could also get one of those Franklin/Mylec shooter targets that you strap on the net. Not just for use in practice for the players, but maybe throw one up on our end of the night. They'd probably come up with more saves that if you put Emery and Boucher in net at the same time.

This. Hartnell is one of the dumbest players I've watched, and he might be one of the worst "good" players out there (he cannot stay on his feet, limited stick skills), but he serves his purpose and does what he's paid to do well.
