First line very easily. Every guy on the first line is better than the best player on the 2nd line.
How is Dats better than Thornton?! Don't forget, this poll is about fantasy lines, not real-life play.
Voted "too close to call". The second would be a much better line if you KNEW they'd stay healthy all season, but if it were my team I'd take the first line because they're more consistently healthy, which is crucial in a fantasy league.

Datsyuk is the best overall player to maybe ever play the game of hockey AND he puts up points. Ill take him any day of the week and twice on Sunday over Thornton.

OK cool, and exactly how does that two-way game translate into fantasy leagues?
Thornton may actually be the single best fantasy player in the entire NHL. The only two guys who are even close at the moment are Gaborik (if he stays healthy) and Ovechkin (if he plays like we know he can).
Datsyuk is having a crappy year on an average Red Wings squad with bunk-ass goaltending and no Franzen to play on his wing.
Seriously, he's nowhere even CLOSE to Thornton's value in fantasy terms. At this point he's probably not even top-20.

I dont think he meant fantasy line as in fantasy hockey?
I think he meant the lines in general. Which of those two lines woudl you rather have on your team?

BTW, best overall player to ever play hockey? You're kidding, right? Having a great defensive game doesn't somehow make him the "best overall player ever". Maybe he's one of the best high-scoring two-way forwards to play the game.
He's not even in the top 50 of all-time "overall" hockey players. Everyone in the Hall of Fame says hi!

Oh. That's not how I read it. If that is the case then I concede that Datsyuk is a better overall "real life" player than Thornton... but he's still having a stinker of a year so far this season. Take age into account and maybe Thornton is equally valuable.

I'm going to speak irl (not fantasy points) and ignore injuries. Purely offensively, I think it's a wash, because I'd say Thornton and Gaborik are the two best, but that Semin is worse than the entire first line.
As a whole, I'm going to give the first line a slight edge. Datsyuk isn't quite as good as Thornton offensively, but is a slightly better two-way player, so I'd put them together (two best centers in the league imo). Gaborik and Parise is a wash too. Gaborik has done slightly better this year, but Parise is more consistent and they'll probably finish together near the end of the year. Kovalchuk versus Semin? Not even close, Kovalchuk.
