The Flyers announced today that goaltender Ray Emery will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a torn muscle in his lower abdominal wall and is expected to be out for approximately six weeks, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren.
Dr. William Meyers, from Hahnemann University Hospital will be performing the surgery.
Emery, 27, has an 11-8-1 record with a 2.83 goals-against average and .901 save percentage, including one shutout, in 21 appearances with the Flyers this season.
With Emery out, the Flyers might look to bring Marty Biron back from the New York Islanders. Biron is making $1.4 million, slightly less than Emery’s $1.5 million, and could be expendable with Rick DiPietro scheduled to come back this week after a lengthy stay on the injured list.
have recalled goaltender Johan Backlund and right wing David Laliberte from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren.

Not really. Clemmensen out of Florida is the most "panic" move I could see him doing.
You mean Scott Clemmensen of the $1.2M cap hit? Yeah, operating under the assumption that at some future date we will have our full complement counting against the cap, we can't swing that deal w/out moving some bodies off our roster.
On top of that...most "cheap" solutions in net aren't going to be available in deals.

Eh, I think that's exactly how these injuries develop...wear and tear. And that type of thing is worse at the beginning of the year when you're not at "midseason form".
Are we going to see the mental problems Emery had in Ottawa? If so I'm afraid we're gonna lose him. I heard he can't handle the media when he's had a few bad games, he hates them. And he's been called sour, awful and so on, he can't deal with that stuff, turns mad and can't focus on his job.

well, we're plain just not going to see much of Emery at all for the next while.

14 goalies have started more games than Emery this year. He had sufficient time between games many times this season because of the erratic schedule. If wear and tear is affecting him already, he'll never be a full-time starter.
If he was still starting the same ratio of games throughout the season, and he was clearly being overworked, I might agree with you.
