He was never worthy of being our starter in the first place. You can't expect somebody relegated to outer Siberia for a year to jump back into the NHL and carry a team to a Cup. Is was a band-aid move that ended up as a classic fail. Now he's lame, to boot. Nice work Flyers!

I'm sure we could lure Kevin Weekes out of retirement

hes barely averaged 30 games in the past 2 years. not really a surprise. at least it happened early while there's still time to do make moves.

I'm gonna disagree with you. Razor had been pretty damn good before this skid that we're seeing. He had a few bad games. Doesn't every goaltender? He's under such scrutiny as being a "volatile" asset that people are just waiting for a reason to get on him.

As far as we know, he hasnt been an issue in the locker room and hes certainly not exploding to the media. God forbid he doesn't have 15 shutouts in the first 30 games. Give him a chance.

It was a gamble by Homer, one that might just blow up in his face and cost him employment one day

Frickin' hockey. Football player gets a hangnail and everyone knows it. Hockey players could take a direct hit from a NAG and play a couple more games before succumbing.

Ugh. Ugh to the max. Who is getting the call up? Teslak? Backlund? I bet the Flyers could lure Robert Esche back from Russia (if there is some sort of transfer deal with Russia, not sure how it works. If only this were soccer...). I would take him over the other options. Emery/Esche would be a better pair than Emery/Boucher IMO.

Vanbiesbrouck?
Hextall?

This just isn't right. If he gets surgery, we have very little room. Hopefully somebody can step up.

Insert more blame on the training staff. Also, blame Ray.

edit - Somehow move Timonen, somehow move Timonen, plz plz plz.

This. Needed to ramp up slowly. Goalies are quirky enough as it is, and physical conditioning and getting into a training rhythm is of the utmost importance. Not necessarily the fault of the coaching staff since he still should have gotten ready, but I don't think many organizations would have leaned so heavily so early on a guy in Emery's situation. It was a necessity for us given the alternatives.

If Emery is only out for a couple weeks and this is the reason he has been playing poorly of late, I see no need to make a panic trade. Ray was playing well enough for us to win a lot of games earlier in the year and if health is the issue here, let's give him some time. We've seen he can be a fully capable goalie. Hasn't shown it recently, but he can.

Per @NHLFlyers Twitter:

NHLFlyers Ray Emery will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair a torn muscle in his lower abdominal wall and will be out for approximately six weeks.
