I also think Halak is a great goalie, and could be a starter in this league, if given a real chance

The more i think about it, the more I'd pull the trigger on any reasonable deal involving Halak.

Halak+ O'Byrne would be good. O'Byrne gives us a steady physical 3rd pairing guy. We would probably put Richards on the PP point when Gagne got back though. Or Bartulis would have to fill in a bit on the 2nd unit

Pronger-Carle
Parent-Timonen
Bartulis-O'Byrne

PP1

Gagne-Giroux-JVR
Pronger-Richards

PP2
Hartnell-Carter-Briere
Timonen-Carle

I rather trade Carle then trading Coburn. Carles value is up. Way up. I think Coburn will start turning it around real soon.

Am I the only one who is unbelievably nervous behind our so-called "hot" goaltender?

He is the perpetually out of position one man rebound machine.

Our defense is what's hot right now. No more Leighton please.

It is good news that Emery's skating again though.

I'm with you. Leighton scares me so much.

Even if Coburn doesn't turn it around, I still think it makes sense to trade Carle. Coburn would be more manageable even if he doesn't turn his potential into reality. Carle could get us a couple nice assets or picks.

The defense-goalie working together is essential, so something right is going on not only with the defense but between all of them. If it was only 2 wins I'd be fine with moving him, but I'd rather ride Leighton's streak out until he loses and the scratch him. If anything, his sucky play may keep the team on their toes and playing harder.

no one is saying Leighton is a every day starter, but he did was he brought in to do. He gave the Flyers a chance to win every game, it doesnt matter who the opponent was.
Looking back, anyone think we win any of those 3 games with Backlund in goal?

I have been saying that our defense is playing well for a while now (through the majority of the slump), so I definitely agree on that point. I would agree about Leighton's rebounds, but his positioning on the initial shot is usually good to me (he is a teeny bit deep at times). He has looked better with each game, IMO. He wasn't really tested at all last night, so that probably has a lot to do with why he looked his calmest and most fluid yet.

He obviously isn't a good NHL goalie, but he's been good enough and seems to be settling down a bit. I have no problem with the team sticking with him till he contributes to a loss.

Probably last night's game. Maybe the other two.

Like I said before, Leighton is great at making the first stop but his rebound control and positioning in response to rebounds is total ****. The defense, however, has been doing very well at mitigating that. With Emery healthy, he probably gives up 1 goal each of the last three games and maybe notches a shut out.

i.e. Carle skating in the crease and running his stick along the goal line to save Leighton's *** against Carolina.

Agree with this.

If our offense really is back on track (and I pray to god it is), then once Emery is back I fully expect us to start taking chunks out of standings position quickly.

Carle saved Leighton like three times that game if I remember correctly.

That would give Emery time to ease into play again, and give Boosh more playing time that IMO he's earned after playing so well recently.

Yep, and I'm also a little concerned about wearing out the good luck with Leighton. He has been OK, but to be honest very lucky that he hasn't surrendered quite a few more goals IMO.

And I think this is what's happening right now, also I think I saw a Flyers team the last two games which really didn't want to lose. They seemed to be sick of beeing embarassed.

On Emery, really feel sorry for him not being able to play in the WC.

On a side not: Has anyone seen Ray alternate mask he wore in the warm-up in Buffalo earlier this season?
Maybe this is the mask he planned on wearing in Fenway (hope flickr links are ok.)

and its about time some of that bad luck has turned into good luck for us.
The Flyers have been the victim of some horrific bounces that that have gone in for the other team and the Flyers have had some bad luck with hitting crossbars, posts ect. Luck or not I am not going to complain.
This team needed some good karma. Sure could help the confidence of everyone involved.

If Carter's shooting percentage is in the process of normalizing, he's going to be on a ungodly tear for the next month.

I agree, but with him its all about confidence. He needs to calm down and trust his instincts. We all know what this guy is capable of. I think like many Flyers he his confidence has been shot to hell the past 4 or 5 weeks. Winning hockey games does good things for the confidence level and we have seen that from some our better players.
Maybe this road trip was just what this team needed. Playing in front of what was turning into a hostile home crowd probably didnt help things.
Yes I know the Flyers deserved the treatment from the home crowd, but you had to know that that was not helping matters. You go out on the road and just go back to basics. Win some games and gain some confidence.
You probably get the sense of watching the past few games that the team was trying to do to much on home ice and it was affecting their play.
Yes the past 3 wins have not been perfect but its all steps in the right direction.

By the way, here is a 100% crop of his mask from that series of photos. This way you can see the detail in his mask.
