Like it or not, Kovalev plays a big part in the point to this thread wich is Powerplay. I hate to say this, but Cheechoo would have to be going since we really need kovalev here for Powerplay even though he's not producing. He's still a great thing to have on the ice, and could make both powerplay units very dangerous. Let's not forget his shootout skills that the sens really need

Nothing, he's been very good all around for us and was great last season playing the left side, playing Redden's role with much less panic than WR and making up for rookie partners. The start to this seasons been a little tough though. Got hurt the first game, came back and CC put him on the right side... he didn't play very well for 6-8 games, then started playing very well for a couple of games. Then CC switched him back to the left side and he wasn't playing well for a while. Now a bunch of nancies from the Sens board are offering him in deals on the trade board. He gets healthy and gets comfortable in one role for a while and he'll be as good as he was last year.

We need to keep him, he's very good and signed a great contract. We need to add another Top-4 D-man to our team without moving a key D-man.
--------------------------------------------------

three Top-4 D-men
- one
+ one
still only equals three Top-4 D-men!

The guy to go after is Zbynek Michalek.

He's a UFA who hasn't resigned to Phoenix yet and with his brother on the team, I'm sure he'd resign with Ottawa in the summer.

I pretty much agree with this.

We need another top4 'D' with plenty of offensive upside. Or just plenty of offense.... We can't be trading Philips/Kuba/Volchenkov or Carkner However anyone else on our 'D' or among our prospects is fair game. If the return is right.

I've no idea what we can get in trade, but unless it is a significant asset coming to the sens I'm against it. We don't need a Barker - we need a Seabrook type

I realize those players are hard to get, but we have the need, had it last year and had it during the off season. Which was the ideal time to clear this up. Not too impressed management has let this slide for 2 seasons.

Michalek's 51 secs per game on the PP would suggest he isn't a PPQB.

I'd say it's more on the forwards and the system, frankly.
Case in point, his pass to Kovalev for the game-winner on the PP today. Kid can run a powerplay.

I would actually consider this. The value is there but Sens can't use Fisher as their 1st line center. That, and the fact that TOR-OTT make bad trading partners. But not a bad proposal.

True, but it wouldn't hurt to have a guy in for this season that can help out on the point.

Also to the people who want to trade Kovalev, you're aware that Spezza is going to miss 2 months right? Do you really want to lose more offense?

A name I'm surprised that has not come up is Joe Corvo, it's rumored that the canes are looking for a 2/3rd and a mid level prospect.

Also I'm sure the Canucks would ship Sami Salo for a very reasonable price.

He asked for a trade out of Ottawa so I don't think it'd happen

Corvo asked to play in a US team, Salo's not returning to Ottawa

Available players; Picard, Lee, 2nd round pick from SJ, Shannon, 1st [must be a real good player] Kelly, Spezza??? Donovan
What about a complete new idea.........

Stoll.........
he would be your 2nd line center and solve Power play problems.
He is played instead a defender on the blue line because of his shot....
The only problem is, we need just left wings or if nothing is there draft picks.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't part with Michalek???
