Republic: Top 10 Coyotes Stories of Decade

The Republic has published a decade-in-review piece by Jim Gintonio about the top 10 Coyotes stories of the decade.

http://www.azcentral.com/review/2009...e-coyotes.html

If you don't want to wade through the slide show, here's the list.

10. Lost the All-Star game thanks to the 2004-05 lockout.
9. Rick Tocchet gets busted for gambling in 2006.
8. Glendale approves construction of new arena in 2001.
7. Coyotes play their first game at The Job in 2003.
6. 2009: Gretzky steps down, Tippett steps in.
5. Moyes files for bankruptcy in 2009.
4. Brian Boucher sets shutout record in 2004.
3. NHL takes over team ownership in 2009.
2. Gretzky becomes head coach in 2005.
1. Coyotes make playoffs, lose to Sharks in 2002.

At least there are a couple hockey highlights among those ten.

Well given that the reason the All-Star game was not here yet has nothing to do with the lockout and everything to do with the CBA and the Olympics it makes me wonder what else they screwed up?

My single-sentence summary was the screw-up. It reads, "an indirect casualty of the lockout that wiped out the entire 2004-05 season was the scheduled 2006 all-star game in Phoenix..."

Geesh nothing but negative but I suppose I can see why, unfortunately there hasn't been much positive the past 10 years.

If there was there is no guarantee that Gintonio would know or bother to research it anyway. I often wonder if he has a day job because it clearly isn't covering the Coyotes.

If this guy had a clue then he would make the top 10 moments in Coyotes history.

Some of which would include.
1st whiteout
Mike G. 700th goal
Kris K. Penalty shot goal on Patrick Roy

Thank God for FSNAZ for those remember when segments being shown this season.

I don't think it was supposed to be a random Coyotes article though. Since we're about to hit 2010 there are a ton of various articles, shows, lists, etc. about the first decade of the new millennium. Fact is there just hasn't been much that went right for the Yotes during that time. Here's to hoping the next decade is just the opposite!!

I think they were pretty right on, with exception of the #1 thing.

They messed up by calling it a "Top 10". Should have just called it the 10 biggest stories or something.

Also, I agree with AZPride that the 1st Whiteout should have made the list.

That was 13 years ago though. Not exactly part of the last decade.
