I like Johnson, but the Kings have very little reason to give him up right now. When Teubert and Hickey are ready maybe then, but not until then.

Oh they didn't, I just picked the first cheap, high-ceiling defenseman I could think of. In retrospect, I should've picked a guy like Jason Demers

Well the Kings aren't going to be dealing him for "spare parts" or prospects/picks (as the Kings already have a ton of those) exclusively.

Completely agree.

Also, Pens have no reason to be after a D-Man right now anyway. At least 7 good D-Men on the Pens already and no real fit trade wise. Gonchar Goligoski, Letang & Orpik all play better than Johnson right now imo, and Eaton, McKee & Skoula aren't enough to get Johnson since they don't have the long term potential that JJ has.

i love the rumors that start with "so and so is interested in blah blahs player xxx..", and all these rumors come out of it and its free for all on xxx around here. of course, there is no mention of blah blah being remotely interested in trading xxx, or why they ever would in the first place. you shouldnt be even able to source something unless it says both parties have an interest.

of course the pens and the habs are interested - everyones interested in good young players. dont mean the kings have any interest in moving him.

Seems fair to me. Pens give up a third-line center and an inconsistent dman for Paul Coffey.

As much as I'd like to see JMFJ on the Pens, I'm not willing to give up what it would take to get him.

Eh. I think Johnson is an upgrade over at least 4 of the defensemen we have right now, not factoring in his potential. If it was the right offer, I'd make room for him.

Obviously Ryan would be next on their agenda.

No. If they traded for Pouliot and Johnson, they would clearly only be looking for busts and underachievers (with "potential", of course) from the 2005 draft.

I don't know. He's only been in the league 2 full seasons and one of them was cut short by injury. This year he's progressed towards the type of defenseman we've expected all along, so it makes no sense as to why all the trade rumors are sprouting again.

Sour grapes?

Johnson needs time to develop. One can always argue that he hasn't lived up to his hype, but the development time span of a solid all-around defensemen (what JJ is supposed to be) is longer than forwards. Price's and EJ's quick developments make him look a worse in hindsight, but give him another two years to label him a career underachiever.

Jack is amongst the hardest working players in hockey. He's not even close to an underachiever anyways.

And really, how much time has he had to develop? He's played what amounts to a season and a half of hockey on one of the worst teams in the league, where he was probably given a little too much responsibility, and not surrounded by enough talent.

He will be just fine. People who are jumping to conclusions are too used to seeing guys like Crosby, Malkin, and Ovechkin.

Some of you east coast people need to stay up late & watch more kings games on CI.

Johnson had 2 major injuries that required surgery. That has stunted his development somewhat. He is progressing & developing. He's only 22 yrs old. Just because he hasn't score 50 goals doesn't mean he's a bust. He's a beast in his own zone. He goes up against top lines & is 2nd in minutes to Doughty. He does, however, make some stupid passes, but again he's only 22 yrs old & still developing.

He's a keeper.

I'd make room for him if the offer were right too, but I don't see him being better than 4 of our current D-Men. I wouldn't trade Gonchar, Goligoski, Letang or Orpik for him since I don't think he's proven he can do for a team what those players do for our team currently. It's close with Orpik, but I have my doubts that JJ can play as good on our top D-Pair right now. He has the potential to become better than Orpik and most of our D-Men, though. I just don't think he's there yet. It doesn't matter since the rumor is BS anyway. Eklund just seems obsessed with reuniting Sid and all his buddies.

Another baseless rumor by Eklund, I stopped visiting his site when I came to the realization that everything he says is false.
